I wasnt sure relating to this. I shoot portraiture photography and have absolutely seen how other similar software, Leaf Capture and Canons Remote Capture performs. What captured my interest pardon the pun was obviously the advantage of being able to see the pictures on PC immediately. To finally have the capacity to verify 100% in the time that focus, exposure, lighting, and certainly composition were all just how I wanted means great shots on a regular basis, ditching the bad ones immediately, and hardly any time in post processing.
The Leaf and Canon software I have seen used ran very quickly which is absolutely important here. How useful would any in this be if when shooting tethered to your PC the images started stacking up or heaven forbid froze laptop computer?
So I downloaded a shot copy from Nikon first. I am thrilled to say it runs fast. Previews appear on screen in only one second, even though shooting tif in my D300 that happen to be 35MB files. What pleased me a lot more is it ran equally fast in my notebook computer which won't have near the processor or graphics power of my desktop PC.
You are managing 3 windows when you use your camera tethered on the PC. There can be a preview window which is resizable showing the wonderful pictures very quickly. It is usually configured for various magnifications, single frame view or filmstrip view. A second, smaller, window shows a histogram and download status on the files since they are coming in. The third window is really a camera control window that permits remote triggering and use of all on camera settings and menus. If you have a very Nikon D3 or D300 you may also work in Live View on-screen in both the handheld and tripod modes. Read more

I bought Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 to work with with a Nikon D700 to shoot tabletop projects and portraits. I installed it using a 17-inch laptop running Windows 7. The installation became a bit strange for the current program. First, I was astonished by the unknown publisher around the installation - Nikon cant afford searching for certificate? Second, it seems like to install twice, though the first pass installs an old version of Microsoft C redistributable.
The program is the first MDI application Ive observed in more than decade and it truly is really clumsy, with multiple windows doing sort with the same thing. The design shows no proof of stepping back and considering how a photographer would actually use something called Camera Control.
To be fair, softwares functionality is in fact as advertised. You can shoot tethered and control the camera from the computer. However, the capture and rendering of RAW files feels very slow, that can limit its application.
Bottom line, the application has a 5 amateur 1992 Windows 3 shareware appearance and feel, not only a 199 from one on the top professional DSLR makers. As other reviews have noted here, Camera Control really should be given away with all the DSLRs. I feel a chump paying the excellent Amazon price for this unrefined package.
I bought Camera Control to shoot Santa Pictures to have an event. I put my camera using a tripod and did all focusing and shooting through live-view mode in my laptop screen. I think I touched you once by 50 % hours to alter the battery, as shooting tethered in Live View sucked the importance an MB-10, I guess. From the capture, I printed to some Canon Selphy and handed the image to each kid in approximately 1 minute. I can also see myself using Camera Control Pro when you are performing portraits, because ability to instantly start to see the image on the high-definition 17 laptop screen makes adjustments and feedback a lot easier than only relying around the 3 sceen about the back of my D300. So, a great deal of upside, including a element set on your Nikon, but I would think something similar to this would be a lot more 99 but not 150 - 180.
Camera Control Pro 2 can be a big step up in the previous version, its considerably faster and more robust.
I make use of this product daily in my studio, shooting product photos, plus there is nothing like the immediate feedback of seeing the pic in high-res on my own monitor. If you have never shot tethered, you're missing out.
The 150 I used on this product became a great investment! It paid for itself with all the first photo session after inatallation. I could NEVER get back on swapping mem cards to find out what I was getting.
Considering I make use of this product everyday, I find the money necessary for it negligible. Sure, it may be nice if Nikon definitely give this away with every camera body could be nice when they gave away Circular Polarizers with every lens too. Hell, it could be nice when they threw inside AC Power Adapter for my camera also, but thats just how it goes.
All things considered, Im a really satisfied Nikon owner.
This would be the only way to shoot in studio situations. Live view could be even better however use a D200 right this moment. Still, to discover what you're doing using a laptop as opposed to twiddling the digital camera is great. Also it is possible to run longer using a set of batteries should you not use the screen. Third you dont mess up you guessed it-your camera setup by touching it between shots. This is fantastic for product or still life.
The reason it is not included together with the camera isn't that everybody wants it or needs it, utilize this type they want to cash.
Bulb exposure may be possible by just how, and you need the remote device to do it.
its also a good choice for setting camera defaults and time etc. By all means, if you studio or controlled shooting, it is usually a most useful tool.
By the way in which, it means that you can shoot direct to your computer without resorting to cards in your camera.
Just shoot, and burn to disc whilst the customer is looking for the shots, perfect results and you happen to be done. no post process etc. its great.
Im not impressed. I possess a Nikon D5000 which records video but Camera Control Pro 2, the trial version I tested, doesnt support Rec in Lv mode for this? Read more

wow, thanks a lot for making this, nice and simple to work with works well
This is TOO cool. Nikon s equivalent is SO not worth the things they charge!!!
Question, though. What ways have you ever found and exactly what do you recommend for combining the resulting JPGs into and AVI or MOV or whatever?
Mark, I utilize the free VirtualDub utility which often can turn a sequence of jpg images to a video. Then WindowsMovieMaker to include titles etc and compress it to your small video file.
Just a rapid thanks for 4.0.
I use a D80 and possess been attempting to persuade tehm to update the firmware allowing greater bracketting. No luck I guess the D80 is just too big old already!!!
After using this freeware for any short while it appears to do the job as I am an enthusiastic HDR shooter. Seems to work fine although I may fiddle the code to offer me 1.5 EV bracketting instead of inter values.
I have to start out that has a compliment from you. Great job while using tether program! Keep it up.
Second thing, though, would be the trouble while using D60. It apparently doesn t hold the remote shutter release, yet it fires just fine with the time lapse. I say fine because doing so fires three shots, and it stops. Could just be me, though, so not really a challenge.
So my question for you is this: Is the D60 fully compatible while using remote shutter release using your program, or do I have to either press the shutter or use another remote?
Again, great job while using tethered shooting and almost-instantaneous preview. Cheers!
WOW Thanks!!! I think you only changed my well being.
I currently working in this little final year project which need to add the function of nikon D70s. Is there anyway you are able to advice me of how to begin with my project?
Having trouble installing v4.0 After installing when I make an effort to run it windows says windows can t open this file
Do guess what happens I am missing?
Hey! Just wanted to state a huge appreciate this! It s awesome. Just wanted something for seen with tethering, and this also is perfect! Great congratulations are in order! Especially also the bracketing addition.
Is the foundation code designed for this?
I am currently implementing integrating a D40x to a C application I am writing and would love to become able to peak behind the scenes.
Hi, notwithstanding some positive comments above, I cannot make my D100 help my Vista 32-bit PC. Any grounds for that?
Windows PC users who would like free software for tethering need to try DiyPhotoBits Camera Control.
Hey this is fantastic but My olympus sp 565uz doesn t work together with this! Can some one let me?
Thanks for carrying this out. I was using Nikon s however the version I have will not help my new D300. Yours does!
Also using this type of wireless USB rig, should the shutter is released using the script it d fire, though the script would hang before download ; but enabling tethering and making use of on- camera shutter release seems OK. Maybe these devices is enumerating oddly? I recommend you accomplish this rig regardless it s pretty clever!
Hey. I didn t view a trouble shooting section so I guess I will ask in this article!
I possess a d50 as well as in the ptp setting though the files will not likely download to my computer. The script will trigger you but will not likely download or maybe show that it truly is attempting to. Does this software log somewhere that I might be able to determine if it can be something on my small end?
Does bracketing work with all the D-60?
I can t discover why it shouldn t work having a D60, but haven t ever done it myself. Doesn t sound right though so it first three shots then stops in timelapse unless that s everything you set it for
Cool! For the better I hope!
