I tried using Copy My Hard Drive to create a bootable Windows 7 disk clone and yes it rendered the foundation drive C: unbootable! I had to leave the installation DVD to fix my Windows 7 installation.
I used to backup my XP drives by doing this using Ghost 12 also it worked smoothly for a long time. No backup program should modify anything within the source drive. There are several threads for the Symantec site concerning this and no one carries a clue. Save your money in the event you plan on utilizing the Copy My Hard Drive feature.

1. Backing up over network, high compression, custom drivers loading is not hard to do. You will backup in style
2. Superior and useful utilities.
3. Every imaginable problem through the legendary Ghost 2003 is fixed and improved.
4. No format anymore. The current format up to now has handled some large partition backups to me. Full 30GB partitions to high compression is often a breeze.
1. Right away following a partition recover, you'll receive the message Please insert the Recovery disk. It will say Error EA730002: Cannot get the driver database directory. How does this error stay in the item? It is but one confusing message for any successful recovery. The recovery disk is actually just the ghost CD.
2. Then there would be the staged recovery mystery. With 2 identical machines in the same hardware, I can only restore on the machine where I initially did the cold backups. I dont understand. This is ruining my confidence in the merchandise. We are talking same motherboards, same versions, everything.
3. What other type of hardware replacement prevents my restores? Should I buy another backup product in the event?
Thank you for the feedback.

Ghost 15.0 is not going to communicate with my Netwok Attached Storage hard disk from Iomega. Since the reason I bought it had been to back my system up about the NAS drive, it really is worthless. Norton Support Technicians have spent a lot of time in my computer attempting to make it be employed by over a month it doesn't help. Finally the trainer told us Sorry, but no refund. Every other application, includung Norton Security Suite work fine with my NAS drive so I believe Ghost 15.0 comes with a inherent flaw in their communications routine which you won't discover until you might have opened the package, thereby ruling out any refund. DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!
Thank you on your feedback.

1. I got the item for free as part of an bundle package of NIS 2010
2. A huge fan of Ghost 2003 for decades
3. Thought to test it out for in spite on the bad reviews
4. Backed up each one of my four partitions within the 1TB HD - HP TouchSmart Q600 - All seem to become fine
5. RESTORING or not enough - Booted on the rescue disk, restored all partitions and around 55% got the please insert the recovery disk message. The recovery disk was obviously within the computer. Tried for two hours different variations one partition etc same issue. After goggling the situation also known as error ea730002 I found out there is NO solution to your issue, but 7 pages of logs of very disappointed people who cant restore their system. If you might be really interested, Norton claims that the matter is windows PE platform related here is the OS they're using for that rescue CD. I personally couldnt care less as I cant restore my computer.
6. Restored my computer to factory image
7. Downloaded a shot version of Acronis 2010 plus it worked like no bodies business. The only complaint that I have with him or her is that my HP TouchSmart Q600 is actually wireless Mouse and keyboard along with their boot screen will default to booting windows vs. their rescue OS - so I were required to find a USB mouse and connect it for that restore not just a big deal

Although Ghost backs up in an internal, usb external and network drive on my small 64bit Win 7 machine, you cant restore from your network drive when while using system recovery disk. It advises that I an individual need to locate and load the 32bit drivers. Symantecs advice is always to call Dell and Microsoft; Dell and Microsoft advise that it is often a Symantec issue. After 3 runaround cycles, I just quit. For the record, Win 7 carries a built in backup recovery environment that's not as robust, but somehow it really is able to obtain the network when booting coming from a restore cd.

I purchased Ghost 15.0 because it had been billed as that will work with Windows 7 both by Symantec and Microsoft. However, attempted installation produced error 2738. Could not access VBScript run time for custom action. Four hours with technical support didn't resolve problem. The technical staff elevated it towards the engineering team who never responded my phone battery went dead while waiting over thirty minutes on hold. Finally, I got agreement to get a refund.
While the tech support team staff seemed to not be familiar using this type of problem, by themselves users community site I found this can be a well know downside to Ghost 15.0 which the tech support team staff routinely refers on the engineering team who never respond.
I stongly recommend against purchasing Ghost 15.0 for Windows 7 users.
Thank you to your feedback.

I dont usually post product critiques. I am way too busy and yes it is rare that a product or service impresses me enough to try and do so, but Ghost 15 warrants time. This is without doubt the best version of Ghost yet. It even bests Ghost 2003, which had been my previous tool usually chosen simply for its flexibility. I have used these versions of Ghost over time: 2003, 9, 10, 12, and 14. I have imaged these windows versions with some other versions of Ghost: 2000, XP, Vista x86 and x64, 7 x64, Server 2000, 2003, 2003 R2 x64, 2008 x64.
Built-in windows utilities perform some backup and restore functions, however they pale in comparison to your power, simplicity, flexibility, compression options, etc to Ghost 15. It is worthwhile 50!!! The ability to make images from your Recovery CD is ALONE definitely worth the price to upgrade from version 14. You are also able to generate customized recovery CDs. The recovery CD creation wizard automatically slipstreams any storage drivers you provide which might be unique in your hardware. The ability to produce VMware ESX and Hyper-V images is usually a promising feature I am wanting to test. Scheduling backups is good to have not new, version 14 had this, although not something I utilize much. I mostly do manual backups of baseline and incremental development images in the test environment.
Recovery CD image creation returns with Ghost 15, and is also better than ever! For reasons I dont pretend to understand probably inside interest of software sales, Symantec removed the capability to make images from your Recovery CD after Ghost 2003. This, for my uses, seriously limited the softwares overall utility. Read more

Lately I have been running in a lot of backup programs. Each time I see a backup program, I think Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost. However both Acronis and Norton are commercial products that is usually had for five simple payments of 19.95! Okay okay I exaggerate a bit they're not that expensive. The point is whenever I think of Acronis or Norton I think there ought to be viable free alternatives; there will always be viable free alternatives. So I did your research, the testing, and still have put together a listing of 7 free programs that you may use to image/backup/ghost your partitions or computer drives like you may with Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost or another similar commercial software.
Before I show this list of program, allow me to clarify something. Quite a few everyone has asked me should I replaced X backup software with Y backup software. Often times X and Y are two several types of backup software. What I mean is inside the category of backup software, there's two subcategories:
Software that's intended to backup whole partitions/operating systems or harddrives. Usually software which could do this refer on the task as creating a graphic or disk imaging or something similar.
Software that's intended to backup individual files and documents.
Now every backup software doesn't have for being either or; one software could possibly be able to perform both tasks. The software I am planning to show you are meant for full backup of partitions/operating systems or computer drives. They are not designed for individual files and documents. For a no cost backup software that's intended for files/documents have a look at Titan Backup.
NOTE: Screenshot for Clonezilla was taken on the developer s website.
NOTE: Screenshot for PING was taken through the developer s website.
NOTE: Seagate DiscWizard is made for Seagate hard disks only. For those folks that don t know, Seagate is often a company that manufactures hard disk drives. You can try to make use of DiscWizard on the different hard disk brand at the own risk a lot of people say it truely does work but I cannot verify that.
NOTE: Acronis True Image WD Edition is designed for Western Digital harddrives only. For those those who don t know, Western Digital is usually a company that manufactures harddrives. You can try make use of this with a different hard disk brand in your own risk some individuals say it truly does work but I cannot verify that.
NOTE2: Seagate DiscWizard and Acronis True Image WD Edition tend to be the same software except for different disk drive brands. They are generally watered down versions of Arconis True Image.
Before I start my analysis permit me to say that Paragon Hard Disk Manager 8.5 SE is just one of my favorite freebies of most times. However, unfortunately, it isn't going to really impress me inside the category of partition/harddrive imaging/backup they have bunch of other useful features though.
That being said, out coming from all seven programs, the programs that's the most features are really Seagate Disc Wizard and Acronis True Image WD Edition. Both are Acronis powered free tool Seagate and WD offers the clientele. The only problem together is is you might want a Seagate or WD harddrive to put it to use so it's hardly a freebie for every individual since not everyone includes a Seagate or WD hard disk. Additionally, I seen that DiscWizard/Acronis True Image WD Edition was slower than I expected for burning: when trying to generate an image of 44 GB partition, Seagate was giving me a quotation time of 3 hours on the highest compression O. Safe to say I wouldn't actually test to see when it in fact did take three hours, but when it does, that's very slow.
Performance speed/compression.
Ability to develop a bootable CD.
Clonezilla and PING are not very easy to use so those were out of the question pretty quickly. DriveImage XML isn't going to have by far the most user friendly technique of creating a bootable CD so which was eliminated also.
That left me with Macrium along with the two Paragons. All three of these programs did fairly well in every three of my criteria stated earlier, but Macrium impressed me by far the most.
Macrium Reflect is surely an awesome professional disk imaging software that allows you to produce and compress full image backups, for more information on each image backup just as if you were viewing a folder useful in order to only restore some file instead on the whole backup, features a scheduler and sports ths creation of Linux and BartPE bootable disks. There are two versions of Macrium, free edition the main one mentioned here and full version costs 39.99. Here is usually a full listing of features:
Creating a perception of my C:/partition 32 GB in size the main one with Windows on it turned out a breeze: it took me less than thirty minutes with Macrium set on low priority to generate an image backup. I set compression at its highest plus the image file size was just 10 GB the look created from the Paragon software was 14.5 GB. The whole time the backup was running I was using my computer rather than once did my computer even hiccup Macrium supports Microsoft volume shadow copy so it is possible to make a full backup of one's Windows partition when using Windows.
Additionally, as I mentioned previously, it is possible to create Linux or BartPE bootable/rescue CDs with Macrium:
These rescue CDs are helpful when your Windows screws up and you also are not capable of login. All one does is pop inside bootable disk and run Macrium and restore your Windows installation from previously secured image files without ever logging into Windows. While Macrium doesn't have native support to build a bootable USB/flash drive, it is possible to create an ISO with the Linux bootable disk and google the best way to turn the ISO right into a bootable USB/flash drive.
To make everything better still, Macrium Reflect supports both 32 and 64 bit versions of XP and Vista along with the size on the installation file you will need to download is just 27 MB.
Macrium Reflect Free Edition is s free full partition/disk drive backup software usually chosen. If this would have been a formal review I would say two thumbs up.
Happily married to your most beautiful woman ever, Ashraf will be the founder of dotTech. Ashraf spends insane hours on dotTech usually marketing through articles but sometimes doing almost nothing except staring. Yes he or she is weird, but he can be very friendly.
Hi Ashraf, just found a free of charge software too but also for Exchange Server Backup . However, it truly is only free for first three months, but what else anyone can expect from your freeware. Never found a totally free software for Exchange backup, even just in trail version; but it truly is.
I m using free version from last 30 days, as it's working amazingly unrestricted!
Thank you to the comprehensive article. However, Macrium has stopped being available like a free version, your link returns a 404 error.
Watch out with the latest Acronis 2016. Two serious items. 1 They removed the read/write mode for mounting. Therefore, if you wish to review files from your backup of some other computer, you can be locked out, at the same time administrator. 2 If you skip releases, for instance 2014 to 2016, you will probably find that you'll be able to t even end up in file. This could be deadly for items copied by an old Acronis version. Of course, you ll realize that out AFTER you find the 2016 one. At least I could go back on the 2014 release. I m looking to get a better alternative that supports usb UEFI booting, AES encryption, and mounting without having to regenerate the whole blamed thing. :
You may actually take Mysql backup using Ahsay software. I am using many from long some time to really satisfied using quite sure. Leaving one of the links if you want it is possible to go and still have a look in the software.?pageContentKeyahsayproductsoverview
Thanks for informative post, Its really offer an excellent information. And your information more appreciable. Once again Thanks
Thank you, I have just been in search of info about
this topic for the while and yours is thhe greatest I have found out thus far.
However, what about the conclusion? Are you sure in regards on the source?
Smock Puppet, Faecies Evenio, Mr. Holder?
If you set a gun to my head, I would cease backing up my IMAGES to DVDs
Rob, really the only objection I can see towards burning to DVDs is the fact modern HDs are very large it s unrealistic any more kinda like the condition when floppies, still stuck at 1.4mb were faced with 100mb hard disks. Once the volume of media needed passes 20 or possibly even longer, it s just preposterous to accomplish.
But less than that, DVDs have historically been the very best damned backup system in existence. The media are in close proximity to invulnerable in case you treat them rationally certainly they may be more robust than another direct-access system and so they re fairly cheap 100 costs about 25-40 bucks, forever quality media. I ve got CDs which are more than 20 years old which are fully readable. And the DVD standard is very ubiquitous that also a change in OS probably won t render anything unreadable to get a decade if not more from now. The biggest concern at that point will likely be being in a position to get the backups outside of any proprietary software format.
Smock Puppet, Faecies Evenio, Mr. Holder?
I used for being a fan of Partition Magic. Then Norton bought them and killed the product or service. I then became keen on Acronis.
I ve given standing on Acronis, and that is why I came looking here. Minitool Partition Wizard will be as good as Acronis DD, and is also freaking free, and they also aren t constantly upgrading it as an alternative to patching it, meaning you aren t constantly getting gouged for 30-40 bucks for the upgrade fee. The thing that put me off it was finding out which the version of DD purchased in excess of 18 months after Windows 7 was already released did not support, and wasn't going for being patched to guide, any change W7 made towards the disk structure UEFI.
I specifically purchased the software to get proper support. I don t expect you'll get support for brand new things that appear AFTER an item is purchased, but I do expect anything available when I purchase it to become covered or, in any other case available then, presented via a patch.
Combine by using their Nazi-esque attitude towards their goods Yu Vill Run Zis On VUN Mashin, and ONLY VUN Mashin!! :-S
Seriously. I was swapping a hard disk into a completely new machine, as well as their software spotted the advance within about a quarter-hour, and yes it shut itself down until I got permission for your move.
Screw them, I ll find alternatives. I expect being able to use a program around my household on a single machine at the same time, Microsoft with the moment, and only in the moment has the ability to deny that, but nobody has that type of monopoly privileges.
Sounds like Macrium, as well as Minitool, are likely to replace my Acronis products and receive all future monies and recommendations.
Smock Puppet, Faecies Evenio, Mr. Holder?
MS instead, took it upon themselves to deliver ALL the USB2 drivers.
Wow. Microsoft-written stuff was absolute crap?
atas launch, singapore property
Thank you, I have just been looking for details about this topic forever and yours is the most effective I ve came upon up to now. But, what about the bottom line? Are you sure in regards for the source? What i don t realize is in truth how you are actually not actually far more smartly-favored than you could be now. You re very intelligent.
Finally I got Acronic but it can be old verison 2011. but it truly is very good and from now on I undastand the reasons you said I am not take backup in DVD s thanks.
or weblog posts in this style of space. Exploring in Yahoo I ultimately became aware of this site.
I discovered just what exactly I needed. I definitely will make certain
glance over a continuing basis.
Hey there! Do you know whenever they make any plugins to help with
Search Engine Optimization? I m wanting to get my blog to position for some targeted keywords but I m
not seeing really good success. If you know from a please share.
Anyone using hardware RAID for example 3Ware, LSI, or other brand should visit their web site in the RAID controller and verify the way to backup and restore if your controller fails. You cannot simply unplug a drive that's attached into a RAID controller and plug it right into a regular SATA port and expect results. RAID is special. If you might have not taken special steps as part of your backup image, you'll likely discover that you might have to get another RAID controller exactly such as the one you possessed before you may restore your image.
2nd what it really FarStone TRP, either I all messed up or it did suddenly me. Lost 2 partitions on boot disk while conducting a restore of C partition.
I may possibly buy Norton Ghost except it will cost me US99. However, I see that when I lived inside US I could obtain it from Amazon for US20.
If Symantec really want to sell Norton Ghost worldwide this should make prices comparable worldwide, not stick an enormous premium for the product wish customer lives away from US.
For now I ll stick to Macrium Reflect Free and a complimentary copy of FarStone Total Recovery Pro I was lucky to buy via Tipradar. That program does Incremental Differential backup.
If you placed a gun to my head, I would cease backing up my IMAGES to DVDs
Read my posts RobCr and Rob Down Under and have the free Seagate Discwizard.
Get another Dock not an enclosed one, and obtain a Seagate 3.5 Sata drive to shove vertically in it.
Get a Dock with both an eSata cable socket, and also a USB cable socket.
Do not get yourself a fancy dock with multiple slots, and don't get one with crap like USB hubs, and card readers built-in.
You may very well have to install the DiscWizard program, but immediately develop a bootable CD from a single of it s options.
Close Windows, and utilize the bootable CD to make images.
Do NOT have Windows running, when imaging
Immediately when you create the style, run an opportunity to verify the style.
If your PC posseses an eSata connector work with an eSata cable.
I have never had an explanation since using eSata connector.
PS The Seagate DiscWizard will run merrily given that it sees a Seagate/Maxtor connected somewhere even by cable.
For the ones that need to work with the DiscWizard, and don't have a Seagate drive connected, you may use the Tech Override
At the Error screen message box showing, hold around the Alt key whilst you type t then o for tech override, then click OK on that messagebox.
first thanks to you this is often a awesome help that don't know how to support. I read this 3-4 months before I and I download Paragon Backup Recovery 2011 Advanced Free and make support on two DVD s and I make use of it first time it's fantastic I empress greatly but yesterday I would not work I try frequently but whenever it say input output error. After three hours when you attempt I am frustrating and install window 7 again, So what is happen I am not undastand please assist me. my email is
I would like to require ghost software for Winxp and Win7. I want Ghost software without hardware dependancy. Becouse I have diffrant model pc inside my office. So I hope U R Solve my problem and Replay in my mail.
Did you try an outside Dock drive shoved vertically to the Dock, or did you might try the cheap plastic plug thingy that I gave the link for?
Have you tried one additional drive, to see whether or not this works within your enclosure or works within the thingy?
The more detail you give as part of your posts, a lot more chance certainly one of us will spot an answer. I asked a large amount of questions and received very little answers.
sys-eng: Thanks for addressing my problem. I ll inspect at what Microsoft has got to say over it and try rescaning something I would not know that I could do. Thanks again.
RobCr: Thank You for giving an answer to my question. I have tried both setup you might be speaking of as well as a IDE enclosure. Both don't show up in My Computer or under Disk Manager. Not sure what I am doing wrong but many thanks for looking to help me.
Your experience is normal. Windows Logical Volume Manager wants a letter for instance G assigned to your disk drive partition.
Reboot computer to see if the drive appears in BIOS. If USB connected drive, it might or may not appear. If not, tend not to worry.
If the partition won't appear inside lower area of Disk Manager, then rescan to get it. This may take several minutes.
After the disk/partition can be found, assign a drive letter into it.
I had issues with enclosures inside past, and I now avoid them.
For SATA drives, I use Docks, you just shove the drive vertically into them.
My Docks have both USB and eSata connectors.
For IDE drives, I work with a very cheap 12 little plastic plug, which plugs in to your IDE socket for the drive. The plastic thingy comes having a power adapter, which plugs in the mains, and in to the small power socket around the drive.
The plastic thingy includes a USB cable coming outside of it, for plugging in your PC.
Just ensuring I am understanding you correctly.
You have purchased a challenging disc enclosure.
Internally that enclosure takes an IDE drive.
You have placed your WD in the enclosure.
Get Seagate inside future, as these are more standard than WD
You have connected it inside enclosure using a short IDE cable.
You have connected a power cable from the enclosure.
By the way in which are we speaking about a 3.5 drive?
Do you've a spare harddrive?
Try placing that inside enclosure to see when it works.
I ordered a USB Hard Drive Enclosure IDE Adapter Cable to transfer data from your PC that died to an alternative PC, both PC s are running Windows XP. The hard drive is really a Western Digital IDE drive. The failure on the old machine had absolutely nothing to do using the Hard Drive. I plugged the old hard disk drive into the adapter, powered up, can hear the drive spinning then pluged the USB in to the new PC however it doesn t show up to be a selection option in MY COMPUTER.
Disk Manger also doesn t show the earlier Hard Drive as being a selection option. Is there a way to utilize any on the software listed using a hard disk enclosure? Or do you might have any suggestions about what could be going on? After contacting tech support I tried changing the jumper to every one option available, CS, Slave, Master with no jumper at all and it also still won t appear.
PPS The Seagate Disc Wizard program stupidly has a option to wipe the earlier drive after it Clones it towards the new drive.
From my memory which just turned 70, that choice is part with the cloning steps
If my memory is correct, and that choice is there, then ensure it's NOT ticked.
Seagate created, and supplies FREE their Seagate Disc Wizard program specifically people that happen to be buying a brand new Seagate Drive. Most often people might have purchased a bigger Drive, plus the developer of this program would readily look after that.
The normal option found in that situation, is where this software copies the contents on the old drive, into the new drive. I believe that had been Seagate s main objective for providing this free software The program should easily handle the move towards the bigger drive. It this software, and I, won't consider that as dissimilar hardware.
However since I avoid laptops, and have absolutely never upgraded a drive in a single IE cloned the important old drive, into a clear new drive, I may 't be fountain of most knowledge for you personally.
Because you could have a Dell, the first drive could possibly be a bit special? Or can it be a Samsung?
Is the newest drive, exactly the same brand as that old drive?
I am guessing that neither from the drives are Seagate, to ensure that means you may have to purchase True Image s imaging software.
The free Seagate Disc Wizard was provided by True Image, nonetheless they have built a pre-check in it, that peeps around to be sure that it can see no less than one Seagate drive, somewhere/anywhere.
You are able to use the Free program if no Seagate drives, by pressing alt t o if your msgbox first appears. That is usually a Tech Override, that I read about about the official Seagate support forum but see my Dell attempt below.
It incorporates a mains to lv power supply, along with a wee plastic thing. The wee plastic thing has sockets on it for two main.5 and 3.5 IDE drives. It includes a USB cable to connect for your PC.
The idea is, you remove your old laptop drive, and plug it in to the wee plastic thing.
You place the brand new drive to the laptop, and put the bootable CD in the laptop.
When you boot the PC, the Disc Wizard program has a couple options that you make use of.
However in the event the program says it wouldn't see the newest drive, you'll have to operate add New Disc first. Add New Disc provides format the drive, and convey a partition. You don t need to add a Partition.
If one does use the Add New Disc option, first let down the laptop, and disconnect the plastic thingy. that ought to prevent from formatting an incorrect drive.
I normally avoid Dell s desktop because of the special hardware.
However I was recently given a Dell Optiplex 760, and I just fired that up while using bootable Seagate Disc Wizard, to ensure that I could have the correct names for the people two options.
The Alt t o wouldn't work, so you may need to purchase the True Image program.
Or if you might have an external Seagate or Maxtor drive, you might connect that to maintain the free program happy. Probably not only a great idea, while you then would have to work with extreme care regarding which drive, gets things done into it.
The great news is, should the Clone attempt isn't going to work out, then it is possible to always put the existing drive back in to the laptop.
If the Clone works, then it is possible to try booting into Windows. If it fires up OK, which means the Clone hasn't been considered dissimilar hardware.
If Windows stuff s up, then it is possible to redo the above mentioned steps, with one precaution.
Do not boot in to the new clone. Instead place a retail copy not oem of the OS to the Laptop CD drive, and boot into that do NOT boot into Windows, and perform a repair install.
You mentioned XP. Will you be by using their?
I will elaborate much more about Repair Install, should you need it, as it is just not Recovery Console repair
I reckon it will likely be worth getting a punt on creating the clone, and booting into Windows.
PS If all goes well and also you are wanting to boot into Windows, then disconnect the previous drive first. Windows gets weird if it sees another windows.
My comments regarding using same connections etc, were being a consequence of my problems in establishing reliable images, and Validating those images, and restoring those images.
I now understand that all those problems related to your unreliability of USB2 in older PCs.
At some time when USB2 started appearing on motherboards, MS forbade the hardware manufacturers from providing drivers for USB2. MS instead, took it upon themselves to deliver ALL the USB2 drivers.
In older PCs 2003 ish they will often appear to work, but they also can have slight errors, the imaging software Seagate Disc Wizard detects, and refuses to Restore them.
If your PC looks her age, and you also are having a USB connector on your external drive, then pay heed to my suggested precautions.
If you've a newer PC, the USB might be more reliable.
If you've an external drive or better a Dock, which uses eSata, you'll need not stress about my precautions.
I now forever use eSata, and find that this images are consistently reliable.
Regarding utilizing a bootable CD.
If you install the Seagate Disc Wizard in to a PC any PC it is possible to then run it and get it to develop a bootable CD.
Once you might have the bootable CD, you add that in to the desired PC, and reboot the PC.
The PC then will boot in a Seage Disc Wizard OS cough, which has a few options.
When running from that screen, Windows will not be loaded the slightest bit.
I will post in the near future on your dissimilar hardware question.
Also, how will you not create the style when Windows is running? Dont you could make your image when Windows is running Do you mean these imaging software works without the OS running? Or is there a better way to perform this, please? Thanks, Sriadverts
What can you mean by, use the identical physical hardware and connections that you simply used to generate it, once you do a recovery? please?
If I take a perception of my existing disk drive and then transfer the style to a higher capacity same type of hard disk drive, won t I always be breaking that rule of yours, please?
I can t show you in words about how useful your site and all the advice are, especially to Newbies just like me. The disk drive on my 4 year old dell inspiron laptop 40GB IDE has become having some issues and I have obtained a replacement a160 GB IDE and am wanting to take a graphic of my old drive and execute a Restore to Dissimilar Hardware as I understand it ever since the new drive is not with the same capacity. Is my understanding correct? And will you or anyone who reads this forum believe that any from the the free software you might have mentioned here, is capable of doing what I want? Also, there doesn t seem to become a detailed tutorialstep-by-step instruction anywhere, with regards to how to recover an image connected with an existing disk to some newdifferent drive. Because, once I take the whole picture and then change the hard disk drive, would I ought to re-instal the main system using an original installation disks first and attempt to replace the picture or would I just must instal the imaging program without worrying about OS say Win XP and be able to revive the image? If the former becomes necessary, then the complete purpose of imaging the drive is defeated since I will anyway have to make use of my original installation disks. Can some please let me with answers? Thanks, Sriadverts
I became a happy Acronis user for just a few years, until I actually worn the extender a couple of versions back, maybe 2009 to regenerate my HDD. I ended on top of quite a few 300 corrupt files and filenames. Each of these files appeared twice within the HDD: 1 Once together with the correct filename, but using the file itself corrupt, unreadable, and undelete-able, and two Once in good file form, but having a bunch of junk added towards the end from the filename extension like changed into % type thing. In general, the mis-named Doppelgaengers appeared to work in place in the originals.
It also seems how the backup-and-restore introduced FAT mismatches in the event that between the filenames stored inside two FATs. As a result, I was constantly told that I had running CHKDSK but running it never changed or fixed anything! This problem with FAT-case-mismatches in WXP, I m running SP3 is extensively recorded by MS, and contains no reasonable solution. The KB articles suggests building a backup, then restore everything EXCEPT all of the corrupt files, one-by-one, yourself!. And yes, I d tried the many various utilities that claim for being able to delete problem files that could t be deleted normally no joy!
I wasn't amused, and I ve since reformated that HDD and started over completely from scratch and moved on into a newer computer. And I m using Macrium Reflect Free for backup. I m not keen that will put my faith in Acronis again, in spite of the power and user-friendliness of interfaith. I admit that I haven t RESTORED anything by using it yet with MRF, and I ll be really frustrated if I end up that has a similar problem!
running portable DriveImage, source is undersized SSD. destination across a LAN. checked the vss option.
i ve never tried restoring, though.
from accumulated impressions from reading, clonezilla looks good.
Are you saying that you just would like to transfer your hard disk drive to another machine? And retain your existing OS and installed programs.
Create a picture, and Restore it to a different drive.
