Vista Home Basic and Home Premium users were unfortunately cheated when the merchandise didnt feature a standard backup feature that are part of the os. Thus, solutions much like the legendary Norton Ghost.
Second great news is copying to my external Maxtor One Touch was flawless. It supported nearly 200GB within a little over sixty minutes.
Third piece of nice thing about it is when making the Symantec Recovery Disc, it is possible to tell it the place to find your driver files and load those on top of the disc.
First not so good is the UI stinks to high heaven. Trying to go the simplified look with good feature rich innovation like of Apple didnt work here. Symantec failed miserably. I had to look online or even in the Help more often than once to figure out using many from the features.
Second not so great, is its failure to regenerate, that's an essential feature in a very backup restore solution. So many bad reviews on Amazon, but so few on the reviews anyone actually seeking to do a OS restore. So you backup your pictures and docs into a USB drive, problem. A manual copy paste does that. But restoring a crashed OS is often a key feature which should be tested. Suffice it to say, the restore process failed personally like it did for that few other people who posted reviews where this became attempted
Third not so good news is the online support for actual error messages stinks. I had previously used Norton Ghost product in older versions around Ghost 5 roughly. Recently my parents computer experienced a hard drive crash. After successfully diagnosing the condition and correcting it, I decided to not trust it inside and that I would ghost that old drive into a new, larger drive.
I stood a limited length of time, and needed to get the now running PC returned, so I went over to your Norton site and paid top dollar for a download version in the software.
Ghost 14 can be quite different than the older versions. First, it installs several services in your system. Second we have an iso image for any recovery cd. The recovery cd doesn't have ability to copy a drive. The only way to get it done is through the windows drive copy function. Well, I tried this repeatedly and the imaged drive wouldn't boot into windows, and yes it froze before reaching the welcome screen. After several attempts at re-imaging I threw in the towel and made some phone calls. One of my buddies came over which has a CD boot disc constructed from Acronis which worked flawlessly for the first try.
It seems Ive wasted 80 on some useless software. This might be okay if you are looking for the program to automatically backup files to some second or external but theres freeware programs which do that just fine without making use of all the services. PASS on Ghost 14.

WARNING to anyone thinking about buying this device! Please be aware that you will not be buying this supplement only RENTING it. If you do not renew each and every year the product stops ! Im not just referring to updates, etc. It actually notifys you that it has stopped working and yes it wont work should you not renew. I have just wasted a lot more than 2 hours with Nortons online tech support. This could be the case with ALL Norton products and I am quoting the tech.

Ive been a Norton user for in excess of 10 years along never experienced any issues other users reported until I came across Ghost 14. I upgraded from Ghost 12 to Ghost 14 6 months ago coupled with been doing drive backup every a fortnight. Recently my laptop was stolen then when I try to execute a restore, I found out certain files were missing through the every archive Ghost 14 created!!! During each backup session, Ghost 14 never gave any indication that some files were not secured. Luckily the missing files were rarely changed and I was able to regenerate from the last Ghost 12 archive. Because of this, my Ghost 14 backups made during the past 6 months are now questionable. Ive little idea what other files Ghost 14 didn't include within the archive.

Norton Ghost 14.0 was initially that I tried Ghost. Previously, I had used Backup MyPC, Genie, and NovaBackup my newest backup program. I have never ever run across as many complications with any of these programs as I have with Norton Ghost. Although happy with NovaBackup, I was seduced from the good-looking graphical user interface and screen shots of Ghost so I chose to give it a try with my brand-new, week-old Dell xps M1330 notebook running Vista Home Premium.
The trouble already begun with wanting to create a customized Symantec Recovery Disk. It took me sixty minutes and required a restart of my system to get this to function. The error messages that sprouted just informed me that no writeable media were found inside my DVD RW drive - but they were there. Symantecs website wouldn't offer a single solution because of this. Only a restart finally took good care of it. Afterwards the disk was developed without a challenge. So far delicious albeit exhausting and
Next, I attempted to produce my first backup. I had attached an external Western Digital 60 GB Passport drive for your purpose. The first screen laughed and said that my backup wouldn't fit on that drive without compression and that I could adjust the compression level from the next step. Fine by me. However, the concepts offered was just None like no compression, Standard, Medium, and High. Nowhere could I find which compression level will be sufficient to acquire this backup file in this little drive.

The reviews say it blends with Windows 7, but dont trust it. After a reboot it did attempt to finish, but I wouldnt trust this software on Windows 7.
Norton Ghost 14 was all to easy to install after earlier version outdated. Best product ever. FAST, EASY, DEPENDABLE. Price would be a great deal and value for that money.
