Tue 29 Jan: This Month Interview - Guilherme Freitas, Brazilian Guitarist, Singer Composer
Guilherme Freitas is undoubtedly an established Bassist/Guitarist/Singer and Composer from Brazil. He is most widely known for his bands Gugles and Pajama Flowers, he currently plays with Bandabala,. The Band recently re-recorded their favourite Pajama Flowers hits completely within the iPad.
Q.1 Gui have been your musically influences?
Ive heard plenty of music during my life however, if I have to mention what I most heard will be Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Beto Guedes, Brazilian pop rock Legiao Urbana, Lulu Santos Beatles, AC/DC, Stones, Nirvana, Beach Boys, Genesis plus a number of other artists,
Q2. Youre a multi-talented Guitarist/Singer/Composer, what is the particular aspect you want?
I started getting enthusiastic about music as being a acoustic guitarist at 14, but at 18 I had to learn to learn bass because I joined a band that needed a bass player, I continued to experience bass for countless years, and went back to playing guitar for many years ago. Right now Im crazy about guitar.
Q3. Why have you decide to Re-Record the tracks for the iPad?
The first reason was that at time of the group in 95, we wouldn't record the project decently, just made records on tapes. Another reason have also been that this guitar rock band no longer exists and several former members don't work as musicians, so there were no possibility will be all together again, each took different paths in your everyday living. The band was independent at time and had no usage of good studios. I always liked those songs and felt sorry for not having done a fantastic recording of these. When I bought the iPad 2 years back, I remarked that when recording classical guitar I got a fantastic result, and yes it reminded me in the work of Pajamas, I had to inquire about help to can recall the lyrics and begun to record a number of tracks before I knew it I was recording 14 songs.
Q4. How do you find the procedure for recording everything about the iPad?
Ive always been serious about using portable recorders, I already had several studios port tascam, yamaha, drum machines, sequencers. When I saw the iPad I started doing small tests in Garageband was impressed and so I bought the IPad.
I used the Apogee Jam, and very I learned the way worked and I realized I was improving guitar sounds compared to several professional studios Ive been able to recorded in. Soon I noticed how the GarageBand wouldn't be enough and that I needed a far more professional app determined Meteor, then yes I was really excited to complete all the job.
I started the searching process for drum loops and ways in which we had done the arrangements way back in 95. I actually recorded each of the basic instrumental in Meteor and vocals in Garage Band, because I had to work with many tracks, as I did many backing vocals.
Electric guitars Gibson Sg, Prs Custom 22, Fender Plus and Suhr S3 I used a 60 amp trademark of Tech 21, miked through the senheiser 609 in direct apogee jam.
Effects on guitar I used eletronics TC Nova system, Fulltone OCD, and Suhr Riot.,
The acoustic guitars Yamaha I always recorded 2 tracks, 1 miked by MIC and another running straight at Jam.
The bass Tagima and precision and music man I ran to get a pre AMT eletronics and ran directly into Jam.
The keyboards and also the strings I got all things in Garage Band.
For quite a while I was unsure if I would record the vocals within the iPad maybe in a studio outside, even so found the apogee MIC and recorded within my home. At the end in the process I had an issue, I would not be capable to mix work around the iPad because I used in excess of 12 channels, and used 2 different apps to record
So I pulled the many wavs separately to the Meteor where we were holding mastered, mixed and everything. Throughout this procedure, Paul from 4pockets forced me to be a lot by email. Thanks Paul.
Q5. What issues with Meteor Multitrack Recorder managed to get your iPad DAW of?
I found the meteor very professional, with 12 tracks and effects, it felt enjoy recording in professional studio, also the superb technical support from 4Pockets provide customers
Q6. We were impressed together with the harmonization on the vocals and guitars, how do you achieve this?
I always enjoyed doing many backing vocals, something such as Beatles, Beach Boys, and Queen, and in reality, with this work, I really did million of vocals. As I was doing in the home, it had no cost, and I could take the maximum amount of time as I wanted so I could do many experiments.
I recorded the harmonizations and often sang two to three times each harmonization to have that wall of sound, like Queen and Beatles around the songs Right on, Sun is for the way. The verse of In the Evening and chorus of Im Addicted, was sung through the musician and song writer Toninho Mattos.
I failed to know if it can be successful but I tried lol. I do not use auto tune any part from the songs.
In eletric guitars, the procedure was similar. I totally same riff continuously to give those aspect on the wall of sound too. But I played really again, as if you just duplicate the track you do not get a similar result, only boosts the volume.
Q7. Brazilian musicians seemed to possess taken the iPad on the heart of these music creation, why is it that you think that is?
I think the entire world is using IPad to record, but maybe its successful in Brazil because a fantastic studio here's very expensive the other of medium size sometimes you do not get accomplishment.
Q8. When will any of us see the Gui Freitas or perhaps the Pajama Flowers for the iTunes Store?
Actually I do not learn how iTunes utilizes independent band, I need to inform you how this is proven to work, in Brazil, individuals still don't have much inside the habit of using iTunes, the individuals still downloads the world wide web. But I think it will be great if I could put my songs out, but concurrently, because this guitar rock band to be independent, I do not determine people will know that this guitar rock band is available on iTunes, I will progress informed to see. When I recorded this work I was not really intending on selling it, it absolutely was just to record it and show it to friends, but couldn't survive so bad if I might make some money with it
Q9. Whats does 2013 hold to suit your needs, can you tell us exactly what are you plans are?
I am an experienced musician in Brazil for 22 years, now I play in a very band called Bandabala. This band plays Brazilian rhythms and it also works here. My plans will be disseminate these Pajama Flowers songs and continue making an effort.
We would choose to thank Gui for carrying part inside interview, particularly since English is just not his first language. I have promised him that I will be taught more Portuguese than how to order a beer.
Keep an eye out for other tracks from Gui along with the Pajama Flowers, I think 2013 is promising being an exciting year for him.
