Because my Ultra 9 would expire in 23 days, I then chose to manually delete the Ultra 9 folder C:Program Files x86CyberLinkPowerDVD9 and discovered two files continued to be in use:
I copied these for the DX 8.3 folder C:Program Files x86CyberLinkPowerDVD DX and deleted the Ultra 9 folder. The DX version still plays my Blu-ray movies without problems and I don t need to bother about the trial software expiring!

Im glad that worked for you personally dcmark. Unfortunately, I just tried whatever you said, plus it did not work with me. PowerDVD DX still gives me exactly the same message that this media isn't supported. My PowerDVD DX came placed on my computer, that may be the only difference. I am designed to receive the PowerDVD 8.1 blu-ray playback version of PowerDVD tomorrow. I hope they sent me the appropriate version of PowerDVD since I noticed an electric of 12.00 under my orders to the software. Im curious to find out if they also placed that charge if they sent you the PowerDVD installation CD.

No, I don t think Dell charged me or I haven t received an invoice. I just said excitedly that they forgot to add in the install disks with my computer. They sent me the Power DVD disc using a UPS return mail sticker and instructions that I could well be charged if I didn t give it back after 10 days.
The disc they sent me specifically said Power DVD DX 8.3 for Windows 7. The version that was placed on my computer didn t possess the Blu-ray icon for the bottom right corner on the main screen next to the Cyberlink icon, whereas the Dell disc version did start to see the screen capture below of ver 8.3.5424:

Am a whole new owner of DELL XPS 1640. I can t play blue rays. Power DVD dx always asks me to update critical component. When i run the update, personal files is downloaded. This exe file is surely an update utility and do not runs sucessfully. And Power DVD doesn t play my blue rays before update is sucessfull. Pleas help!!

See my posts above. Try downloading the trial version of Power DVD Ultra from your Cyberlink website. If it works, then ask Dell for just a PowerDVD CD and follow my directions above. It worked personally.

Then I Downloaded the Realtek file those above in the web link says to.
It work then but this may be the biggie. You will get a mistake message that your particular graphics card is just not compaitable. It will also change colors to windows basic. Disregard this all and check out control panel and connecthe computer with a projector that you are really hooking to your tv congratulations, you should be able to experience the blu-ray dvd and hear sound out with the tv. It took me per week to get a treatment for this. Thank the guy from that link who posted the perfect solution.
Actually you can just play in the blu-ray dvd but something is lacking in software or hardware. But no less than this way you can enjoy a blu-ray about the tv.

After reading the countless complaints with this problem within this forum, I wondered why an alternative hadn t been posted by Dell on the web site. Nevertheless I contacted Dell while using email option and described the challenge. A very polite person named Ashish taken care of immediately my complaint by email and laughed and said that a solution will be shipped. I was skeptical, however today a package came by FedEx Priority Overnight through an installation disk for PowerDVD 8.2 and three other installation disks I didn t look for. I installed it, and today PowerDVD plays Blu-Ray movies.
I m very happy to have my system fixed, but this might appear to be a wasteful system. Why not just post the fix for the web site? Or in addition to this have CyberLink fix their patch program? My theory is this fact problem comes about when you update to Windows 7. Maybe PowerDVD 8.1 won t use Windows 7, and program with the update button won t assist Windows 7. I got off the phone with Dell Support and in addition they had me download PowerDVD DX 8.3 Blu-Ray playback software from /9a5jot, uninstalled old PowerDVD DX 8.3 software, installed the newest one, first-time run it downloaded update from called, uninstall old again and install this new from cyberlink and after this I can play Blue Ray movies - yey!
Minor problem everytime I start PowerDVD DX get error TODO: has stoped working, simply click close this course and movied still play OK.

Tablarlu is correct. Similar to every body, my PowerDVD DX cannot play Blu Ray DVD s, and after 5 months of calling numerous Dell technicians I had purchased the extended/better warranty/helpline - which has been totally useless and making literally 20 cases and subsequently, over 30 calls - these people were useless. Solutions which range from reformating my laptop yup, that had been his first reaction to system restores to downloading half dozen outdated patched including a PowerDVD 7 patch dated noisy . 2007.
I tried most solutions posted on these Dell forums, but no until I tried out what Tablarlu did above. And it worked! No problems whatsoever!
1 Download that patch it seemed dodgey to begin with, but I virus scanned it also it was fine
2 This will see it to Patch 8.1.-something. It wasn t 8.3 yet my version just before this download was PowerDVD DX 8.2.5202 or something like that. Download the following critical update.

Today I ve downloaded the patch 8.3.1.6107; the Blu-Ray icon shows ok, nevertheless the BD disc, a minimum of the one I ve burnt myself, just isn't identified by PowerDVD DX on my small ST1747, OS W7 Pro. Are your BD s that play commercial or self-made? I burn mine with ImgBurn

Never6: The Blu Ray I watched was a classic BD.
It has to be noted the PowerDVD DX software made available from Dell is different in the retail version on Cyberlink s website. Despite what a number of Dell s uninformed technicians might inform you, downloading the patch off their retail version via is not going to work as they may be of different versions. Notice that Cyberlink will not offer PowerDVD DX, but Power DVD 7, 8 or 9.
I would love to note which the PowerDVD 9 trial version from worked in my opinion, however the one month trial prevented it from as a long term solution. Also in the event you uninstall and re-download the trial software, it won t reset the timer.
