Quake 3 Arena on Windows 7 64 bit?
According to Microsofts software compatability, it states it as being unsure. My son was seeking to install Quake 3 Arena on his laptop with Windows 7 64 bit plus it says it's just not compatable and also to check what bit version he or she is running? Ive done searches about this where people say it'll run, however they dont say if theyre running 32 bit or 64 bit. Does anyone here know?

Tried that! We used it for XP and Vista, neither worked, and also got the same message.
Im still searching other places and havent found anything yet. Its an attractive old game, the most recent update because of it was 2002.
System requirements for Quake 3 were Windows 95/98/ME. Compatability says Quake 4 is useful for Windows 7 64 bit.

I havent tested Quake 3, though the free version Quake Live, does definitely develop 64-bit. Its also pretty much the identical game. /

Q3 ist 100% suitable for 32Bit along with 64Bit!.
There is not any need for compatibility modes. It will use default settings.
Just ensure Setpoint 1.32c is installed as well as the newest Display-Drivers are installed. Q3 can be an OpenGL Game so some Display-Drivers might have troubles with this.

What really sucks is the fact that only way to have my desktop by to normalcy it by rebooting!
Ive seen this concern on Vista too so I do not know whats happening.
Only thing I can think of is I have DEP switched on and Quake doesnt this way and screws up my desktop.
Still Ive never had some other game totally ruin my system where I had to reboot though or ensure it is crash.
And Ive installed over 100 games!!!

I gave up looking to make it work.
Weve tried many different methods of install each time you attempt to start a whole new game it merely dumps you back towards the Windows desktop.
I think the primary reason from what I read, the experience does not like HD video cards, and thats what is inside laptop.

I moved the installed directory from my 32bit system running Windows 7 32bit upgraded from Vista 32bit to my new 64bit Windows 7 system also it works. This is how I got throughout the error message that game wont work on the 64 bit OS.
Hardward I now take over is intel I7 3Ghz, Nvidia GTX260 1.8GB.
Hardware I tranfered from was AMD Athlon Dual core 3Ghz, Nvidia 8500 Gt 1GB

Quake3 Arena works fine in my Win 7 32bit.
Just seeking a workaround for your weird contrast effect ingame.
I never installed it again from CD, i just now copy the entire directory to wherever you need to it after that.
I offer an E8400 as well as an ENGTX260 sp216 perhaps not the latest but it really does all of those other high res games adequately!

Make sure youve got the most recent drivers for ones graphics card. As Quake 3 Arena requires OpenGL which doesnt ship with Windows. Hopefully Intel has implemented it inside their WDDM drivers.

i understand it works fine in xp, and ive been reading around but its a windows 7 issue because the only those who been able to learn this game are the type with ati or nvidia graphics go figure:

it doesnt really help much and yes it resets the majority of ur settings you have now because the stupid thing does look at the config file when you edit it. Its usless also it doesnt have to numerous extra optinos which are any valuable in getting it faster. Only download if you're like screwing around with ur quake 3 settings for celebration because thats its useful for.

A tweaking program really should increase performance as part of your games, right? I gave this prog a shot and yes it did the opposite. Using the Quake 3 Quaver demo as being a benchmark, I can run my Voodoo3 at 1024x768, all options resulted in at about 45-46 fps just for this demo. I used the program to make up a config file, and to start with noticed that it screwed up my gamma settings waaayyy dark colored. After fixing that, I ran the quaver demo plus the result - 40.5 fps, a 5-6 fps drop from my old setup. Good idea, but no appreciate it.

Today I tried to setup Quake 3 from my original 1999 CD with a Windows 7 laptop. Windows 7 resolutely refused to perform the installer, helpfully explaining that I may need a 32- or 64-bit version, dependant upon what my OS is you could have to love those Windows error messages: absolutely correct, but as unhelpful as humanly possible.
In nevertheless, needless to say the 1999 software programs are 32-bit, plus the laptop is 64-bit. But I was fairly certain that 64-bit Windows versions could handle running 32-bit software. What gives?
