What advice about human nature! And for an adult I appreciated the dry, understated humor. I also appreciated the spiritual insights - - that God gives us whatever we desire, but sometims uses circumstances we dont want to teach us truths we couldnt learn otherwise.
When I was someone I was often switched off by what was called good reading, however for some reason, I enjoyed Heidi and yes it never seemed sappy or corny.

After years of staying back with her Granfather, Heidi learns the way to live freely and finds new friends in high places. She learns in regards to the mountains and also the cold winters up within the Alm. As Heidi gets older her Aunt Dete arises again and tells the Grandfather that Heidi should go to school. The Grandfather refuses, but eventually gives in. Dete takes Heidi towards the city where she finds a fresh friend, Clara. Clara needs to sit in the wheel chair. The original, unabridged version of Heidi transports you on the Swiss Alps and places you with normal folks who are natural and unaffected. Even the wealthy city dwellers who employ Heidi have her best interests in mind. I especially enjoyed how Heidi discovers an individual relationship with God within the midst of her sadness; taught by way of a caring grandmother.

Beware. This is really a great edition of Heidi, annotations from the margins along with a very nice translation and to read and study out loud. is ONLY HALF OF THE STORY. It is NOT the full story, as ironic as that seems. Unknown if you ask me, Heidi was published by 50 percent volumes and this also edition only includes the initial half with the entire story of Heidi - arriving about the Alp, planning to Frankfort and coming back home. and thats where it spits you. I found this so ironic because it could be the whole story edition. It helped me laugh and not while I was relaxing in Switzerland seeking to read the story to my kid. Very annoying.
