I wants to write an appraisal on how this system works, but I cannot because doing so does not help Mac OS 10.6 also it doesnt show you anywhere so it doesnt. I contacted Roxio Support because I could not get audio to become captured and so they responded with Please note that Easy VHS to DVD for Mac just isn't compatible with OS X 10.6. I have asked when they plan to support Mac OS 10.6 but they also have not replied yet.
So, if you work with Mac OS 10.6 DO NOT purchase the product at this time.

This review may have gone very, very badly, been with them not been for Roxios excellent support website, and intrepid PR person, who kept the dialog going when I was wanting to wash my hands from the whole thing.
That said, the worst thing I wanted to accomplish was start just one more review with: I really desired to like this supplement,
Over the very last four months, when I unfortunately stood a lot of time on my small hands a victim with the current economic unpleasantness, since resolved, and I am again very happily employed, I decided I needed to regain some space for storing in my increasingly cramped townhouse. My assortment of several hundred VHS tapes needed to go. There were, however, 40-50 titles I planned to keep and chose to put them on DVD. I had planned on carrying this out almost 24 months ago, and discovered a superior and expensive! analog to digital video converter, a Canopus ADVC-300, which I was able to find at the very acceptable price on eBay. I setup my VHS deck around my computer room, connected film and audio outputs to your ADVC-300 inputs, and sent the output to my dual 2.0 GHz Mac G5 towers Firewire port still running Mac OSX 10.4, and into my copy of iMovie HD from iLife 06. Each two hour tape used 25 GB of disk space from the DV formatting. I quickly trimmed unwanted video from the beginning and end, and inserted chapter markers once the tapes had multiple programs, or if I was putting two 60 minutes tapes for a passing fancy two hour DVD. These chapter markers directly imported into iDVD where I picked a concept, edited the captions, and burned one more DVD. On my G5 tower, the operation of rendering couple of hours of video ahead of the DVD could possibly be burned, took 4-6 hours.

Despite just what it says, VHS to DVD for Mac won't produce a file that could be imported into iMovie. It also skips frames when importing making a fast jerky output. Checkout Roxios support form and youll see this will not be an isolated occurrence. This is using the updated 1.01 version from the software. I would suggest Elgatos Video Capture instead.

Do NOT BUY this device if you are running SNOW Leopard. IT rule isn't followed with it. I got this in June before just installed it two days ago and I cant have it to work well. It hangs constantly while seeking to finish up the playback quality after you click Stop recording. If you try to record over 8 mins of video it never records more either. EIther way it is a 67 waste for me personally.
The ONLY advantage is so it does seem to get very easy to utilize. And in fact i did understand it to work ONE time to get a 4 min video recording I did. I wish much itd work more.
The a valuable thing is their customer satisfaction on email is VERY responsive. The BAD thing is because they have NO answers for Snow Leopard and informed me flat out it may not use Snow Leopard. May not work!?!?!?!? Trust me it does NOT work.
Roxio has diaspointed me significantly. They really should provide me my a reimbursement. Lesson NOT every invest in a product pre release like I did using this type of. What a mistake. So allow me to be the goat this NOT buy until and IF they ever fix their software. The latest patch makes no difference.

Ive updated my version of Easy VHS to DVD for Mac to version 1.0.2. Now, theres not any sound output. Everything is connected right. Before, I were built with a problem with iMovie and my captured video. Hoping which the 1.0.2 version would fix the capturing problem, Im getting no sound output. I dont even determine if the iMovie capture problem has become fixed. This product just isn't ready for prime time. Also, to download the 1.0.2 version, I were required to sign into my account and look for updates. The look for updates feature within the program keeps nevertheless I have the modern version which no updates are offered. What a fantastic way to screw the buyer Roxio; spending money on software that doesnt work and struggling to return it, because it is opened.

It feels like the largest issue people experience with this device is the dropped frames problem. It appears to be Roxio has July 2009 released an update v1.0.3 to cope with this.
If Roxio fixed the dropped frame issue it looks like their product having its native 768x480 video size contains the advantage over Elgato Video Capture which scales the resulting video to 640x480.
The only other difference I see is the fact that Roxio converts to MPEG2 whereas Elgato converts to H.264. As long as you manage to manipulate MPEG2 then there can be a clear winner.

Works and its particular amazing product for digitizing your old vhs mini dv and high 8 tapes it even does dvds.
Awesome setup, dont waste your cash buying a separete DVD/VHS recorder player. This can be a much much better strategy to use, cheaper, better made, etc.
Great, simple to use, does the project, and I do recommend it.

The USB device died after one year of minimal use. Could not convert tapes. I tried to work with the extra software for copying LPs to digital, but that never worked. The device became un-recognized by Windows.
Customer service helps by telling you to try and do certain tasks on your desktop, then convey in their mind what happened. All via email. They react to your email the following day, when you try to find the issue after work from the evening and phone them the following day, you'll hear back from their site on day 2. EACH time. I went back and forth over 1 1/2 months without having remedy plus a couple duplicate suggestions. DO NOT get many!
