Ive been a Sibelius user since version 5, having cross-graded from Finale after managing and researching its crashes, bugs, and program problems became a part-time job alone. At the same time I switched to Mac platform with Logic Pro and Apogee audio hardware, for the advice of an studio pro colleague, and combined with Sibelius 5, enjoyed a virtually glitch-free studio around three years. The upgrade to Sibelius 6 had also been smooth.
The new Sibelius 7 reminds me of my days with Finale and PCs: it crashes virtually every session during many operations, including simple ones as saving and printing. Exporting to PDF crashes four times out of 5. Even saving to previous versions crashes often, in order that some projects are temporarily useless. The installation has disabled Sibelius 6 for the point where ReWire with Logic don't work, along with the Sound Essentials work only intermittently. Often error message boxes haven't any actual text - revealing that some error scenarios wasn't anticipated and coded. Yes, I have each of the OS and program updates. And to be sure the problems are not on my end, I performed an absolutely clean OS X Lion install which I have never once found necessary on the Mac, and all sorts of problems remained.
I am quite sure if I devoted time for it to tracking down every glitch and bug with tech support, user forums, etc., I would learn you will find good solutions somewhere to everyone of these problems. I am also sure Avid is working furiously about the next update that may fix this.
The problem? Knowing the wedding ceremony drain of lower-end solutions, I now choose my technology specifically avoid so much. Read more

Sibelius 7 is BY FAR the worst program I have ever used. Every single time I try to open up or make use of this software I am met with program hell and little bugs without explanation that can and choose seemingly pointless at all.
If I had downloaded this application without cost I would be insulted that a person even wasted my own time with it, nevertheless the fact that I paid a hefty price to upgrade from Sibelius 4 makes me sick.
Please do not buy this system and support their madness. No wonder AVID fired the entire dev team simply holds onto this product by a shoe string.

I ordered Sibelius 7 for school, as a music composition major and it to be a requirement for the class. Before, I had just used a free of charge notation software, MuseScore. Though switching involving the products became a wee bit of your hassle, once I got employed to Sibelius, I appreciate it. My only complaint is that it may seem to crash a tad. I suggest saving your scores once in a while while since you write them as a way to not lose your projects. Other than that, Sibelius 7 is really a fine, sleek way to publish down your music.

I went from Sibelius first to Sibelius 7.5, the most recent update, my desktop doesnt like it whatsoever but eventually first got it to work on my small laptop, and following a couple minutes of writing we've noticed something the audio is really much worse, literally each instrument sounds far worse plus more fake than anything did prior to a update, the piano sounds pretty ok that is literally it. if you would like score music, this will probably be the bare minimum you will need, if you would like even pass the music activity as decent background for the recreational user, dont understand software. its over priced for providing you less features.

This is often a very robust program, an incredible tool to the trained musician. The only drawback would be that the user manual that comes on pdf is a little sketchy. It takes serious amounts of experimentation to discover some from the functions and the way to get them to operate ie. glissandi.
I bought this program to digitize a theatrical score plus it produced a recorded score suited to performance on stage.
Although pricey, it can be a few hundred dollars less on Amazon than buying from Avid.

Its the top tool to compose! I used this inside my undergrad at WT and since I used Sibelius, I never wished to use finale again.
Ill be learning how to use each of the nuances of tis application for months in the future.

an independent site about Sibelius, other music software, and technology
by Daniel Spreadbury on July 27, 2011
I m delighted in order to announce that Avid has today released Sibelius 7, a significant new version of the flagship music notation software, as well as a labour of love for me as well as the incredibly talented people I work with with the past 2 yrs. There s plenty of specifics of the latest version on both the Avid web site plus the Sibelius site, but hit the jump for my edited highlights.
Completely redesigned and revamped interface :We looked everything at Sibelius as well as growing sophistication and, yes, complexity and aimed to design a method that would allow new users to get started together with the program without delay, without driving existing users to distraction. At the same time, we've adopted a far more modern method of window management, having an SDI model instead of the old MDI model, adding document tabs, and making it possible to dock various windows across the edge with the screen to make use of screen real estate property more efficiently. Not to mention the ribbon, the status bar, the Inspector, the redesigned Mixer, and so on additionally, on.
Fully native 64-bit application. Sibelius 7 could be the world s first fully 64-bit notation software, which means it s future proof and ready for today and tomorrow s most demanding applications. Sibelius is now able to access a lot more than 4GB RAM directly, so you are able to run several virtual instruments when your system are prepared for within Sibelius. Sibelius can also include a new multi-core-aware playback engine, so that it can automatically balance force of multiple virtual instruments relating to the available CPU cores.
Exclusive, professional-quality 35GB sound library. We ve been very fortunate throughout the years to have partnerships with great businesses like Native Instruments, Garritan and Tapspace to offer sounds for Sibelius s included sample libraries, though with this version we wanted something really special, and intensely unique, that you'll be able to t get elsewhere. So we broke down and, using the help of the top Hollywood sound designer, recorded a full symphony orchestra, plus the result called Avid Orchestra forms the basis in the new Sibelius 7 Sounds library, but there s a heck of the lot more besides: great sounding jazz instruments; fantastic drums and percussion; a 20-stop pipe organ from Hauptwerk ; as well as a selection of sounds from Sample Logic s new marching brass and percussion libraries, Fanfare and Rumble. The result is something over a par with libraries that retail separately for countless dollars, also it s all added with Sibelius 7, seamlessly integrated with all the built-in Sibelius Player.
Full MusicXML interchange. Sibelius has brought MusicXML import sinceversion 4, however, if you desired to export aMusicXML file, you previously required the separate Dolet plug-in from Recordare, which has a price tag of 200. With Sibelius 7, we ve built MusicXML export directly into this software, so you are able to easily export files to deliver to colleagues running Finale and other music program. The export is faster than Dolet and includes features that Dolet can t include, because Dolet are only able to access the details made available by Sibelius s plug-in language, ManuScript, including detailed score formatting information for example bar widths and note spacing, helping the fidelity with the transfer between Sibelius and also other programs.
Text and typography improvements. Text continues to be given a total overhaul in Sibelius 7. There s way too much to penetrate here, but here s a simple checklist: hierarchical text styles; character styles; DTP-style text frames with automatic word wrap and full justification; leading; tracking; character scaling; per-object rotation; OpenType font support on Windows; improved font substitution, including warnings about missing fonts when opening existing scores; and even more besides.
Graphics import improvements. Previous versions of Sibelius permitted you to import TIFF files, however they were awkward to function with. Sibelius 7 permits you to import graphics in most standard formats besides EPS, though it is possible to instead import SVG, which most programs which could save EPS files may also save, and manipulate them a dramatically improved graphics frame. You can crop, scale proportionally or otherwise not, rotate, flip and adjust large of any imported graphic easily. You can link a graphic to a external file to ensure the graphic inside score updates automatically in the event the file changes. You can even use any graphic like a symbol, opening all sorts of possibilities for special notations.
Graphics export improvements. Sibelius 7 includes one-click PDF export, a unique boon on Windows, which previously required the installation of the separate PDF driver. Even on Mac, which includes always included built-in PDF export given by the os, you will discover benefits to Sibelius s built-in export, as you are able to export the score and parts together in a PDF, or simply the parts in one PDF, or batch export all of the parts to split up PDFs, with a single click. EPS export is improved, with better, more comprehensive font embedding, and you could also export graphics in SVG format if you appreciate.
Note input improvements. Sibelius 7 includes a full new form of step-time note input, similar toFinale s popular Speedy Entry input method, in places you specify the pitch in your MIDI keyboard before you decide to specify the duration, instead of the usual Sibelius approach that you specify the duration prior to pitch. We ve also added my personal favourite new feature, sticky lines which automatically extend during note input, and you'll find sticky tuplets too.
There s much more now besides: print preview; a revamped dialog for adding instruments having a built-in find feature; the Quick Start window; updated PhotoScore and AudioScore; new plug-ins, for example the fabulous Add Fingering to Notes, Rehearsal Recordings and also a brand-latest version of Renotate Performance; an element to automate creating multiple parts for instruments in a variety of transpositions; a super-fast strategy for creating time signatures; options to remember your working environment between sessions; full screen mode on Mac; the discover in Ribbon feature I could go on as well as on.
A free, no-obligation 30-day trial of Sibelius 7 can also be available, containing every one in the features above apart from your Sibelius 7 Sounds library, and you'll be able to download and install it at the moment. If you have already got an earlier version of Sibelius in your computer, it won t affect it whatsoever. So what are you currently waiting for?
Loving the revolutionary UI: sleek and effective. Yet another time-saver from Sibelius, along together with the text and typography enhancements
1. Fully that will work with Lion?
2. Is there a fresh Reference available yet?
3. What s the oldest Sibelius version it could possibly open files from?
Thanks, Daniel, for your hard work on the another stellar version!
1. Yes, fully suitable for Lion. It doesn t take advantage from the new Lion features like resume, versions, or full screen even though it does have a unique full screen mode; it merely doesn t integrate with Lion s other full screen apps, nonetheless it works great on Lion.
2. Yes, the PDF is as part of the program as usual, and you also can buy it like a printed book through the Avid web store, and very quickly from all good booksellers.
3. As always, Sibelius 7 can open files created in a previous version of Sibelius for Windows or Mac.
Can you provide a set of the early music instruments from the new sound library? My friends inside the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra have inquired about this for me. The Avid site mentions Baroque trumpet and oboe d amore, but those would be the only ones named.
Major props for your requirements for making the consumer interface inside the Mac version for sale in multiple languages. Now it s don't necessary to order an avid version in Spanish, French or what have you.
Fantastic Daniel! Many congratulations again. Can t wait to attempt it out.
That s nice thing about it! I already love the newest interface.
Important question personally: there has to be a seperate German version, or can I already purchase the upgrade at Avid and it also switches to German automatically?
All supported languages are included from the same package, when you re managing a German-language main system, Sibelius 7 will automatically begin in German, and you may change the language if you like through Preferences dialog.
Yikes! This is pretty different. I m much less sure that is nice! Is there a number of which keyboard short cuts/commands happen to be deleted from V6?
Sorry I see an email list at the end on the what s new in Sibelius PDF Is this really all? Maybe it is simply that I a bunch of my own, personal set up? Is there a strategy to import my shortcuts from V6?
Maybe it s this everything is in this different spot.
You can move your existing keyboard shortcut set to Sibelius 7 by copying the Menus and Shortcuts folder from /Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 6 to /Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius 7, and renaming the folder to Keyboard Shortcuts, which can be what Sibelius 7 expects so that it is called. We ve changed extremely little keyboard shortcuts in Sibelius 7, plus the list from the What s New PDF is complete.
I ve found the PDF with the what s new leaflet which lists the headline changes, also it looks great. Good job!
For previous versions of Sibelius, everyone also published an exceptionally detailed multi-page report on every single feature change and fixed bug. I always utilized to read that before deciding if you should upgrade, because it often was some relatively minor bug fix or improvement not just a headline change that a majority of appealed if you ask me. Do you know if there s an equivalent detailed listing of changes for Sibelius 7?
Also and I think I know what your answer are going to be do you know whether you will discover plans to issue a spot upgrade to produce Sibelius 7 fully native to Lion nativising full screen, version control, process/window separation etc, or will we've to await Sibelius 8 because of this?
That PDF lists anything that s changed in Sibelius 7. There are a smaller amount of bigger changes when compared to previous versions of Sibelius, if you find what I mean.
I can t provide any specific info on if/when we ll have the ability to take advantage on the new features in Lion, but it really s certainly something we ll take a look at.
I attempt to download the sibelius 7 demo, however cant still find it, nevertheless there is only a link from check it out to sibelius 6 demo. perhaps there is often a problem because i startet here from germany?
Download the English trial, as an alternative to clicking the connection to download the German demo. For various boring technical reasons, the marketing folks haven t yet updated the non-English parts in the site, and so the German-language pages still discuss Sibelius 6 and now have the Sibelius 6 demo available.
Can we have now paste inside tuplets, merge into tuplets etc using this upgrade? I don t see this listed inside pdf.
There are not any major changes for the handling of tuplets on this version, aside from sticky tuplets. In general, whether or not this s not listed inside the PDF, it s not inside program. All alterations in Sibelius 7 are listed inside PDF.
Just watched the videos, major changes, I need to use it to see when it improves the workflow.
over a laptop, I always find frustrating to modify the note durations inside the keypad on screen, since there s no numeric pad with a laptop. I wish there d been an essential command to focus about the keypad area. Is there a approach to do this now or differently?
The new sound library is fairly large. Is there a method to use the old sounds or to obtain a light version like GPO again with a laptop situation where disc space is restricted?
On a laptop, I recommend you utilize the Notebook laptop features feature set, which you are able to choose about the Keyboard Shortcuts page of Preferences.
You don t should use the brand new sound library should you don t need to, or if your machine isn t approximately it: you are able to instead makes use of the Sibelius 6 sounds if you've got them installed or perhaps the standard built-in sounds with your computer, or GPO, or anything!
While it s obviously very nice to possess new features, especially when you re planning to utilize them, I would have gladly bought the 7 upgrade just to get a fix on the tuplets issue alone. Workarounds abound inside the form of Filter Notes for Deletion/Copying, and plug-ins which allow conversion of ordinary notes into tuplets, nevertheless they remain simply that time consuming workarounds for something I believe needs to be and in lesser programs such as defunct Composers Mosaic actually was completely straightforward in almost any notation software.
I hope this can be well high within the Sibelius to-do list, specifically:
1. allow paste/merge associated with a compatible event into any viable part of an tuplet, notes and text
2. allow paste into viable part of your compatible voice without erasing all the voices inside the process
3. allow conversion in situ of the viable contiguous notes into tuplets
4. allow deletion of an tuplet without also deleting the notes from it, to ensure that they respace automatically into non-tuplet time locations
