Last year s NHL 2001 was approximately the best computer ice hockey game most fans from the sport may have hoped for, regardless of whether it wasn t a wonderfully realistic simulation in the sport. Using that outstanding edition on the long-running hockey series as being a foundation, EA Sports could equally well have added with a bunch of superficial extras and referred to as the new product NHL 2002. And to a point that s what exactly happened. But fortunately for fans in the series, aside from anyone who likes hockey, you can find quite a few excellent enhancements to your gameplay along with the computer s artificial intelligence hidden beneath NHL 2002 s dizzying variety of flashy extra features.

EA may want to modify their slogan because of this game to convey Even if it is just not in the overall game, its in the action. A prominent arcade feel continues to be incorporated into this classic sports game, plus it actually takes away from the overall game experience-while I am not a hardcore hockey gamer for the reason that Im merely that good advertising online, I am a bit of a purist, plus the bells and whistles added for this incarnation of EAs NHL series are somewhat silly and definitely distracting. For example, a major hit or great save will generate several slow-motion replays in the actual middle in the action, causing you to be uncertain therefore vulnerable once you suddenly come back to live action. When you score or make an enormous play, words announcing your achievement may pop up for the screen, along with the display for reasons unknown makes me think from the old arcade games I played to be a youth. The concept of collecting NHL cards for myriad achievements just seems weird for me; if I are interested in easter eggs and cheats within a game and I dont, incidentally, I am greater than content to find out that such secrets are for sale to free all above the Internet. Even the sport announcers have to making plain silly remarks with the sake of humor alone. Periodic game summaries appear like a good idea theoretically but become annoying. Many of these new showy features could be turned off, but I cant really realize why the greatest sport game franchise ever feels compelled to prostitute itself to draw new, probably younger, players.
The game itself, I must say, remains to be excellent. The action is really as intense as it ever was, the number of skills needed to excel has risen, and important latest features from real hockey are making their way into the overall game. Read more

Well, when I first got mafia wars 5 days after its release, I can say for certain that it is one of the most beneficial hockey games Ive ever played. Though, a final EA Sports game I bought was NHL 99, as well as the rest I played were demos, this can be by far one of the top concoctions.
Some from the new features that provide it a story-like feel may annoy many folks. These add the 3-time replay of great saves and big hits during gameplay, which can make the user lose his/her sense from the moment till the replay ends. Also, whenever you are breaking away, the screen just tints blue and creates a heartbeat sound is most likely one on the features I dont like about the sport.
The NHL Cards certainly are a new thing. I really have zero opinions concerning this because these cards are definitely more like cheats and special abilities which could turn away people inside the wrong way. Though, furthermore, it gives more unpredictability on the game except for that cheats. Luckily, it might be disabled on the per-game basis.
The AI has improved on the NHL 2001 demo I played. The goals manufactured by the computer looks more skilled now than NHL games of before. It doesnt appear like the CPU made a decision to score during those times, however the AI makes an effort to generate a goal like every other player. In fact, Im creating goals farther on the net, which evens out your playing field. Also, the defense from the computer doesnt include attempting to check you at each moment. It seems to attempt to poke check you and also loosen the puck in most situations, giving you some chances to recoup.
Anyway, soon I will be looking to play online via EAs Match Maker. Though, users ought to know that you can only play online until October 1, 2002, where they probably cut everyone off in order that we get a new version on the NHL series.
BTW, those gamers who would like a real simulation may wish to look elsewhere. There can be a big tradeoff made between fun generally speaking and realness.
I love this game plus it would turn into classic inside my collection.

EA sports must stick to creating hockey games. Thats what they do the most effective at inside my opinion. Madden, Fifa, Nascar, Nba, are common good, however their hockey games rule. In 2002 they've many the latest features like the card based system in which you get special goodies to assist you in the sport. Plus they brought old features from 2001 back much like the dittie importer, team creator, and face generator. The gameplay in 2002 is much better. Its more realistic and possesses music during all of the breaks and merely feels more realistic. The players do special dances and stuff once the score goals plus they show continous stats. A new feature could be the crowd momentum. 2001 had the Momentum bar. 2002 provides the Momentum bar with the players and for that Crowd. The more goals you score the louder the crowds get then youre team gets more pumped up. This is one in the most realistic sports games up to now. the NHL series is my personal favorite of them all of course, if you like several other NHL games Im sure youll such as this one.

When I first got farmville, I was excited. All kinds of great and interesting features. The game was harder than the previous game 2001. But once I got used towards the controls, it's easy again. The first game I played, I lost. The next one I won by two goals. Now I am in this little fourteenth game and I am winning by twenty goals. Also the zoom in feature about the breakaways is receiving annoying. Overall, this can be a good game. I still deeply love playing it. But it gets the same problems since the last one 2001 with a lefty shoots having the capacity to beat virtually every goalie. The one thing that does make the game great may be the computer is actively trading. So far, the Dallas Stars have almost traded 25% of the team. But it really is great. A team is struggling, as well as the computer starts proposing trades to attempt to improve the team. That figure is the very best part with the game.

Sports simulation developers try to include both ultra realism and arcade action - - aspects of opposite ends from the simulation spectrum. The perfect balance leads to an accurate representation from the game that may be fun to experiment with. The longest running sports simulation series, football and hockey titles from EA SPORTS made great strides in honing gameplay to appease fans seeking both realism and action.
Unfortunately, while football games seem like getting nearer to emulating the actual game, hockey appears to be slipping into arcade fantasy. NHL 2002 can be a fun game, but only should you arent expecting a sensible sporting event. On the surface, NHL 2002 seems to reach for true hockey experience by licensing not simply the complete official NHL lineup of teams, but teams from hockey worldwide. Player models keep improve, especially facially, and theyre easier identifiable than ever.
Controls can also be becoming more sophisticated. The four basic buttons could be used in combinations for just a variety of shots, passes, and checks. This simplicity allows you to focus within the action taking place. New dekes along with a saucer pass option are already included too.
Gameplay is how realism in time breaks down. Breakaways result within the camera switching into a close up, slow motion angle the spot that the only sound is usually a loud heartbeat. Its nearly the same as being the bullet time effect from Max Payne and somewhat disorienting. After a shot is fired, the angle swings back on the normal overhead view with the ice, often allowing you to lose track in the location from the deflected puck.
The same is true every time a goalie creates a great save. The save is shown from your close up perspective and repeated from three different angles in slow motion. Usually, the puck rebounds completely to another opponent, who pokes it in while you might be mentally switching on the close up towards the normal view. Big hits will also be shown in a very similar fashion. Obviously, the brand new angles are an endeavor to spice inside the action, though the gimmick wears off quickly, causing frustration, annoyance, and errant pucks.
Besides the unusual camera angles, the majority with the game play is solid. While the beginner and levels provide quite a few shots, gamers will discover the medium and difficult levels nearly snuff. Slider bars within the options menu helps balance the passing and goaltending skill sets, an aching spot for fans of previous games.
New additions add an Emotion Meter, where momentum is usually generated by causing a succession of great plays, but often unbalances the overall game because it activates all too often on mundane shots or checks. A new card system offers Upper Deck NHL cards which feature well-known players; them are acquired by earning points within the experience by performing special tasks, for example scoring a shorthanded goal. The points could be redeemed to get virtual packs of cards, which boost player skills, provide cheats to get a limited time, or unlock secrets including special celebrations or Easter eggs. The computer doesnt manage to use them, ultimately giving the edge for the gamer. Some with the effects, though, border on silliness, sullying the groundwork laid for any true hockey simulation.
Sounds have been a strong part on the series and NHL 2002 doesnt disappoint. Hard hits sound excruciatingly painful, and slap shots possess a solid smack for them. The arena noise sounds realistic, which assists set the atmosphere. Menu music has a previously unreleased Bare Naked Ladies song, also as music from Sum 41 while others.
The looking after that could eliminating the joy of NHL 2002 may be the inclusion of Don Taylor as color commentator. In previous games inside the series, the action was called by Jim Hughson and Bill Clement who provided decent, if somewhat repetitive, asides and remarks with many kind of seriousness. Taylor is occasionally funny and sometimes sounds more such as the wiseacre inside back of a freshman English class. He is likely to lower the usually superb Hughson into a junior school mentality.
Despite the unwise decision to engage Don Taylor, NHL 2002 appeals more towards the arcade action camp versus the purist. While most with the new additions dont work at the same time as planned, it truly is encouraging to determine fresh ideas implemented. NHL 2002 is fun to experience, but isnt particularly true to your sport, which can disturb true hockey fans having its slip away from realism.
Graphics: Fine player models and animations. Importing gamer faces still needs work.
Sound: Big checks and hard slap shots sound really fine, but Don Taylor nearly wrecks the experience with commentary that misses a lot more than it hits. On the upside is often a new Bare Naked Ladies song.
Enjoyment: New additions of action angles plus a NHL card system raises the arcade feel. Its fun, but tend to draw scorn from hockey purists.
Replay Value: There are plenty of NHL and world teams to select from. Five gameplay modes provide many styles. Online leagues should extend hockey season for years.
