Last year s NHL 2001 was ready the best computer ice hockey game most fans with the sport may have hoped for, even though it wasn t a totally realistic simulation on the sport. Using that outstanding edition from the long-running hockey series to be a foundation, EA Sports could equally well have added with a bunch of superficial extras and known as the new product NHL 2002. Sports simulation developers endeavor to include both ultra realism and arcade action - - components from opposite ends on the simulation spectrum. The perfect balance brings about an accurate representation on the game that is certainly fun to experience. The longest running sports simulation series, football and hockey titles from EA SPORTS made great strides in honing gameplay to appease fans searching for both realism and action.
Unfortunately, while football games seem like getting nearer to emulating the actual game, hockey is very much slipping into arcade fantasy. NHL 2002 is usually a fun game, but only when you arent expecting an authentic sporting event. On the surface, NHL 2002 seems to reach for true hockey experience by licensing besides the complete official NHL lineup of teams, but teams from hockey worldwide. Player models keep improve, especially facially, and theyre easier identifiable than any other time.
Controls may also be becoming more sophisticated. The four basic buttons can be utilized in combinations for the variety of shots, passes, and checks. This simplicity allows you to focus within the action accessible. New dekes along with a saucer pass option have already been included at the same time.
Gameplay is how realism fights. Breakaways make camera switching with a close up, slow motion angle the spot that the only sound is often a loud heartbeat. Its as being similar to the bullet time effect from Max Payne and somewhat disorienting. After a shot is fired, the angle swings back for the normal overhead view on the ice, often allowing you to lose track with the location in the deflected puck.
The same is true any time a goalie makes a fantastic save. The save is shown from the close up perspective and repeated from three different angles in slow motion. Usually, the puck rebounds completely to another opponent, who pokes it in while you happen to be mentally switching on the close up for the normal view. Big hits may also be shown similarly. Obviously, the revolutionary angles are a shot to spice within the action, though the gimmick wears off quickly, causing frustration, annoyance, and errant pucks.
Besides the unusual camera angles, the majority in the game play is solid. While the beginner and simple levels provide quite a few shots, gamers will quickly realize the medium and difficult levels approximately snuff. Slider bars within the options menu helps balance the passing and goaltending abilities, a painful spot for fans of previous games.
New additions include an Emotion Meter, where momentum is usually generated by looking into making a succession of great plays, but often unbalances the action because it activates many times on mundane shots or checks. A new card system offers Upper Deck NHL cards that come with well-known players; they are acquired by earning points within the experience by performing special tasks, including scoring a shorthanded goal. The points might be redeemed to purchase virtual packs of cards, which boost player skills, provide cheats for just a limited time, or unlock secrets including special celebrations or Easter eggs. The computer doesnt seem to use they, ultimately giving the edge to your gamer. Some with the effects, though, border on silliness, sullying the groundwork laid for any true hockey simulation.
Sounds will always be a strong part in the series and NHL 2002 doesnt disappoint. Hard hits sound excruciatingly painful, and slap shots employ a solid smack for many years. The arena noise sounds realistic, that helps set the atmosphere. Menu music features a previously unreleased Bare Naked Ladies song, too as music from Sum 41 among others.
The one side that could eliminating the joy of NHL 2002 will be the inclusion of Don Taylor as color commentator. In previous games from the series, the action was called by Jim Hughson and Bill Clement who provided decent, if somewhat repetitive, asides and remarks by kind of seriousness. Taylor is occasionally funny and sometimes sounds a lot more like the wiseacre inside back of your freshman English class. He is likely to lower the usually superb Hughson to some junior senior high school mentality.
Despite the unwise decision to employ Don Taylor, NHL 2002 appeal more on the arcade action camp as opposed to purist. While most in the new additions dont work also as planned, it can be encouraging to determine fresh ideas implemented. NHL 2002 is fun to try out, but isnt particularly true to your sport, which might disturb true hockey fans which consists of slip away from realism.
Graphics: Fine player models and animations. Importing gamer faces still needs work.
Sound: Big checks and hard slap shots sound really fine, but Don Taylor nearly wrecks the action with commentary that misses a lot more than it hits. On the upside is a whole new Bare Naked Ladies song.
Enjoyment: New additions of action angles along with a NHL card system raises the arcade feel. Its fun, but not draw scorn from hockey purists.
Replay Value: There are plenty of NHL and world teams out there. Five gameplay modes provide many styles. Online leagues should extend hockey season for years.

EA might choose to modify their slogan for the bingo to say Even if it's just not in the action, its in the experience. A prominent arcade feel may be incorporated into this classic sports game, and it also actually takes away from the sport experience-while I am not a hardcore hockey gamer for the reason that Im hardly that effective in it, I am a bit of a purist, plus the bells and whistles added to the incarnation of EAs NHL series are somewhat silly and of course distracting. For example, an enormous hit or great save will generate several slow-motion replays right within the middle from the action, causing you to be uncertain and therefore vulnerable once you suddenly come back to live action. When you score or make an enormous play, words announcing your achievement may pop up on screen, along with the display for reasons unknown makes me think on the old arcade games I played as being a youth. The concept of collecting NHL cards for myriad achievements just seems weird in my opinion; if I want to find out easter eggs and cheats within a game and I dont, incidentally, I am over content to recognise that such secrets are for sale for free all within the Internet. Even the experience announcers took to making plain silly remarks for that sake of humor alone. Periodic game summaries appear like a good idea the theory is that but get annoying. Many of these new showy features might be turned off, but I cant really realise why the greatest sport game franchise ever sold feels compelled to prostitute itself to draw in new, probably younger, players.
The game itself, I must say, remains excellent. The action will be as intense as it ever was, the group of skills needed to excel has grown, and important latest features from real hockey have elected their way into the sport. Read more

Well, when I first got the bingo 5 days after its release, I can say without a doubt that this really is one of the most effective hockey games Ive ever played. Though, the past EA Sports game I bought was NHL 99, and also the rest I played were demos, this can be by far one of the most beneficial concoctions.
Some on the new features that provide it a story-like feel may annoy quite a few users. These are the 3-time replay of great saves and big hits during gameplay, which can make the user lose his/her sense on the moment till the replay ends. Also, when you're breaking away, the screen just tints blue and produces a heartbeat sound may well be one with the features I dont like about the action.
The NHL Cards are a brand new thing. I really haven't any opinions concerning this because these cards are a lot more like cheats and special abilities that may turn away people within the wrong way. Though, in addition, it gives more unpredictability for the game except for your cheats. Luckily, it could possibly be disabled with a per-game basis.
The AI has improved above the NHL 2001 demo I played. The goals created by the computer looks more skilled now than NHL games of before. It doesnt seem like the CPU thought we would score in those days, however the AI makes an effort to produce a goal like every other player. In fact, Im creating goals farther from the internet, which evens your playing field. Also, the defense in the computer doesnt include attempting to check you at each moment. It seems to try and poke check you and also loosen the puck very often, that gives you some chances to recuperate.
Anyway, soon I is going to be trying to experience online via EAs Match Maker. Though, users should know that you may only play online until October 1, 2002, where they probably cut everyone off making sure that we buy a different version on the NHL series.
BTW, those gamers who desires a real simulation might choose to look elsewhere. There is really a big tradeoff made between fun normally and realness.
I love farmville and it would turned into a classic inside my collection.

EA sports must stick to creating hockey games. Thats what they do the very best at inside my opinion. Madden, Fifa, Nascar, Nba, are typically good, however their hockey games rule. In 2002 they've already many the latest features like the card based system where you receive special goodies to assist you in the action. Plus they brought old features from 2001 back just like the dittie importer, team creator, and face generator. The gameplay in 2002 is much better. Its more realistic and has now music during the many breaks and merely feels more realistic. The players do special dances and stuff in the event the score goals and so they show continous stats. A new feature may be the crowd momentum. 2001 had the Momentum bar. 2002 provides the Momentum bar with the players and for that Crowd. The more goals you score the louder the crowds get and after that youre team gets more pumped up. This is one with the most realistic sports games thus far. the NHL series is my personal favorite of them all and when you like any NHL games Im sure youll like this.

When I first got mafia wars, I was excited. All kinds of great and interesting features. The game was more difficult as opposed to previous game 2001. But once I got used towards the controls, it's easy again. The first game I played, I lost. The next one I won by two goals. Now I am on my small fourteenth game and I am winning by twenty goals. Also the zoom in feature around the breakaways gets annoying. Overall, this really is a good game. I still deeply love playing it. But it has got the same problems since the last one 2001 with lefty shoots having the capacity to beat virtually every goalie. The one thing that does make mafia wars great could be the computer is actively trading. So far, the Dallas Stars have almost traded 25% of these team. But it can be great. A team is struggling, along with the computer starts proposing trades to improve the team. That figure is the most effective part in the game.

4.0 away from 5 stars Purists should stay with NHL 2001 for one more year

When you score or make a major play, words announcing your achievement may pop up on the watch's screen, and also the display i really enjoy seeing makes me think in the old arcade games I played being a youth. The concept of collecting NHL cards for myriad achievements just seems weird in my experience; if I want to determine easter eggs and cheats in the game and I dont, incidentally, I am over content to recognise that such secrets are accessible for free all above the Internet. Even the sport announcers have to making plain silly remarks for that sake of humor alone. Periodic game summaries look like a good idea in principle but become annoying. Many of these new showy features could be turned off, but I cant really realise why the greatest sport game franchise in the past feels compelled to prostitute itself to seduce new, probably younger, players.
The game itself, I must say, is excellent. The action is really as intense as it ever was, the group of skills necessary to excel has grown, and important extra features from real hockey make their way into the action. The ability to generate a scoop pass is quite a bit appreciated, as would be the ability to knock pucks out in the air or over on for your stick. Goalie animation has been enhanced, making room for a lot of pretty spectacular-looking saves. A new feature I do like is animation with the crowd reacting for the gameplay. Overall, however, I feel that NHL 2001 is superior to the present game, specially in terms of gameplay. Icing, two-line passes, plus the like just dont appear to happen enough in farmville regardless from the settings I choose-I find myself playing minutes at a stretch without a stoppage of play, which does my left thumb all the more damage than usual. I have a very harder time maintaining where my teammates are, also. Perhaps by far the most disappointing feature of NHL 2002 will be the animation of players after a goal. Basically, the scorer sticks his arms up and stands there to get a minute; then, following replay, another teammates plainly him to congratulate him. This goes for making goal-scoring almost anticlimactic.
All in all of the, it is still an incredible game, but it's saddled with flaws not of performance but of design. I buy the game every year once it comes out, going returning to 1996, and I will still do so. Sadly, though, 2010's release is dependant on being a purchase according to loyalty in lieu of enjoyment. Purists, I feel safe to convey, are going to be much better served by simply embarking using a brand new season of NHL 2001 and waiting to find out if 2010 hopefully anomalous trend toward arcade action is reversed in NHL 2003.

NHL 2002 has proved to be probably the most disappointing title with this decade-long franchise. Heres my tackle it:
My recommendation: Stick with NHL 99 or NHL 2001.
EA might choose to modify their slogan for mafia wars to say Even if it is just not in the action, its in the overall game. A prominent arcade feel is incorporated into this classic sports game, and yes it actually takes away from the sport experience-while I am not a hardcore hockey gamer primarily because Im simply not that great at it, I am a bit of a purist, as well as the bells and whistles added to the incarnation of EAs NHL series are somewhat silly and of course distracting. For example, an enormous hit or great save will generate several slow-motion replays right from the middle in the action, causing you to be uncertain and so vulnerable after you suddenly come back to live action. The game itself, I must say, is excellent. The action can be as intense as always, the group of skills necessary to excel has risen, and important extra features from real hockey have elected their way into the sport. Well, when I first got the bingo 5 days after its release, I can say definitely that this can be one of the most effective hockey games Ive ever played. Though, the very last EA Sports game I bought was NHL 99, as well as the rest I played were demos, it is by far one of the very best concoctions.
Some in the new features that offer it a story-like feel may annoy many folks. These add the 3-time replay of great saves and big hits during gameplay, that may make the user lose his/her sense with the moment before replay ends. Also, when you happen to be breaking away, the screen just tints blue and is really a heartbeat sound might be one in the features I dont like about the action.
The NHL Cards are a fresh thing. I really do not have opinions concerning this because these cards are a lot more cheats and special abilities that may turn away people inside the wrong way. Though, what's more, it gives more unpredictability towards the game except with the cheats. Luckily, it may be disabled using a per-game basis.
The AI has improved above the NHL 2001 demo I played. The goals created by the computer looks more skilled now than NHL games of before. It doesnt appear to be the CPU chosen to score in those days, even so the AI makes an effort to produce a goal like several other player. In fact, Im creating goals farther from the web, which evens out your playing field. Also, the defense in the computer doesnt include seeking to check you each and every moment. It seems to try and poke check you together with loosen the puck more often than not, gives you some chances to extract.
Anyway, soon I will likely be trying to experience online via EAs Match Maker. Though, users should know that you are able to only play online until October 1, 2002, where they probably cut you off making sure that we buy a whole new version with the NHL series.
BTW, those gamers who wish a real simulation might choose to look elsewhere. There can be a big tradeoff made between fun on the whole and realness.
I love the game and it would turn into a classic during my collection.

EA sports would need to stick to cooking hockey games. Thats what they do the most effective at within my opinion. Madden, Fifa, Nascar, Nba, are common good, however their hockey games rule. In 2002 they have got many additional features like the card based system where you obtain special goodies to assist you to in the overall game. Plus they brought old features from 2001 back such as dittie importer, team creator, and face generator. The gameplay in 2002 is much better. Its more realistic and possesses music during each of the breaks and feels more realistic. The players do special dances and stuff if the score goals and in addition they show continous stats. A new feature will be the crowd momentum. 2001 had only the Momentum bar. 2002 provides the Momentum bar to the players and with the Crowd. The more goals you score the louder the crowds get and after that youre team gets more pumped up. This is one in the most realistic sports games up to now. the NHL series is one of the best of them all and in the event you like any NHL games Im sure youll like this.

When I first got the game, I was excited. All kinds of great and interesting features. The game was more difficult compared to previous game 2001. But once I got used towards the controls, it can be easy again. The first game I played, I lost. The next one I won by two goals. Now I am in this little fourteenth game and I am winning by twenty goals. Also the zoom in feature for the breakaways is receiving annoying. Overall, this can be a good game. I still deeply love playing it. But it contains the same problems because the last one 2001 with lefty shoots to be able to beat nearly every goalie. The one thing that does make the bingo great would be the computer is actively trading. So far, the Dallas Stars have almost traded 25% of these team. But it can be great. A team is struggling, and also the computer starts proposing trades to attempt to improve the team. That figure is the most beneficial part on the game.

Everyone to know video games sees that EA Sports will always be the leaders in sports games of all types. Ice hockey isn't a exception, and theyve put out the most beneficial hockey games within the market considering that the early 90s. No other company has captured the feel as well as the intensity with the coolest game on the planet with such precision, and it also seems every year they try to outdo themselves. And theyve ever done it again with NHL 2002.
So whats new this coming year? Well, first off, the squad have all new and all the more realistic animations: you will find more sorts of passes, dekes, checks, and goal celebrations, among others. Almost every player from the NHL has their real-life mug in the bingo, plus the faces react with more expression to each event. The game story feature gives the action a more TV broadcast check out highlights are hit-and-miss, though. Youve now got a breakaway and save cam, which puts you right within the shoulder of either the shooter or even the goalie as it happens. It takes some getting accustomed to, but in case you find it annoying you are able to turn it off. The emotion meter actually pumps the players as being the momentum shifts, and theyll play better whether peaked. You can even collect Upper Deck NHL cards and make use of them to boost your players stats. This just improves an already great game; youve still got the summer season mode, create-a-player, and the rest from previous games, too. But best of, finally, you may play ONLINE. Finally, it is possible to see how good you truly are if you take on anyone within the world. These guys aint the innovators for nothing! Of course, everything graphics, sound, and stat-wise is equally as spectacular of course. Youre definitely there as it happens. And, theres the return of Mario
Great as the game is, though, I actually found several faults by using it. Standing your most may be the color commentary. While its humorous to begin with, it gets very repetitive rapidly. Bring back Darrell Reaugh! Or John Davidson at Good thing you'll be able to turn it off. Also, when you new towards the NHL series, incomparable pain. Theyve turned the AI in 2010, and also on medium difficulty, I got bounced around a great deal no matter which team I used or who I was playing. Start out on easy or maybe beginner mode and educate yourself on the basics first. Another big is that even though you'll be able to create a whole team from complete scratch, you will always cant bring it through the summer season mode. You can still bring it online or play it within a regular game, but Id desire to put a team together and go ahead and take Stanley Cup by it.
On the main, EA Sports has delivered again, and hockey fans and gamers world wide can now rejoice. Dont miss out on this. The world is watching

It may seem like whenever I get a brand new NHL game every 36 months, the improvements are very amazing that I am simply in awe. NHL 96 was proficient at the time, NHL 99 was better, but wow, NHL 2002 is great! It had an excellent overall experience, good extras, good AI, good expandibility, and even more.
The game itself was nice. It had an excellent start-to-finish experience that included pregame warmups, coaches actually talking to players, people shoving the other person, spectators cheering. If you have bored with that, though, you are able to skip throughout it, an excellent feature too. There were some features, such as the Breakaway Cam and instant replays after a terrific save, that I wouldn't enjoy, but, it is possible to turn it off too. The announcers were okay, a minimum of they didnt repeat repeatedly.
There were many small things that were cool. For example, you might customize your face if you create a player. You can pick a teams Home, Away, 3rd, 4th, or inaugural jersey when playing a game title. You can head over to EAs how does someone download roster updates and music converters so that it is possible to play your own personal music amongst plays.
A cool feature, NHL Cards, sets certain tasks for someone to achieve in a very game get yourself a hat trick, receive a shutout, win ten faceoffs, etc., and then you have points that you are able to redeem for cards. These cards mostly are for players. You can use them during an activity to increase their quality of play. Other cards are Easter Eggs that could do various things.
The difficulty is a great one; I was competent to set a middle ground between winning 12-1 and losing 12-1.
I have browsed through other reviews and seen comments like NHL Cards is detrimental, I dont such as Breakaway Cam or even the instant replays around the hits and saves, though the great thing about NHL 2002 is the fact these features, yet others, might be turned off at the discretion.
A final awesome feature will be the mid-season action. There is really a rookie draft, then a round of free-agent signings. So if your team was within the short end from the previous season, then you obtain first dibs over a slew of fresh talent. An excellent idea.
In conclusion, in case you want to experiment with hockey, and havent gotten an activity like this in awhile or ever, then this really is for you!

Im an everyday player on the NHL series since nhl99. I like nhl2002 since the gameplay is slightly improved: certain moves dont always produce goals, defenseman can poke the puck away, you are able to pass over other sticks although the programmers idiotically give this one hundred pc success, if this should be nearer to 60 percent, and yes it has somewhat of a slower feel that's more realistic. But if you're a regular player, you could be very disappointed with some with the changes or lack thereof. First of all, I was significantly looking forward to new faces for players that are relatively new, or at the very least new as from the beginning of recently. For example, All-Star goalie Roman Cechmanek, Flyers starters since September 2000 like Ruslan Fedotenko, new players like Dopita, etc. all lack faces. In fact, I cant locate one new face by any means since nhl 2001. In addition, the rosters arent quite right, and in most cases exclude new additions through the summer for Philly, like Dopita, Brendl, Boulerice - - all starters. Second, I was looking towards new colour commentary: the full commentary are few things but bad jokes, without having comments within the players in any respect. Worse, these jokes just get repeated. Third, this joking is taken in the arena announcements. One from the things I most enjoyed about nhl2001 was its realism, of feeling that you were inside arena. Now, all in the realistic arena announcements are actually replaced using a handful of stupid joke announcements: If that you are a single woman inside your twenties, Id love to meet or I just inhaled a balloon, doesnt my voice sound funny or If your car or truck is, you should buy a different car! If these kinds of changes are in your case, then definitely buy the experience right away. If, at all like me, that you were mostly enthusiastic about updates with the stats, faces, rosters, etc. then the information disappointed. And yes, they cheats are stupid: you obtain a deck for boost-cheats on league players you might have no treatments for. If youve never owned an NHL game, then that is definitely the top out there.
By the best way, the automatic update feature is buggy - - which might be okay since EA has not release any updates and even updated rosters, though we have been already inside season these rosters were adjusted July.

This can be an a amazing game! You feel much like your playing playstation as well. You can help it become really simple to win or very hard. It seems really expensive however its worth the money. When I saw the revolutionary NHL Hitz for Xbox I was jeolouse because I wanted it because in the great graphics. I couldnt understand though because I don't possess Xbox but NHL 2002 shure made up for your lose though it would be nice when you could get in fights like on NHL Hitz. The people who increase the risk for coments are funny along with the music is nice. In all this can be a should have for any hockey fan or player, especially should you want to be your chosen player!

Initially, farmville looks much like its predecessor, NHL 2001, but once I started to explore the sport more, I was pleasantly surprised about how indepth the bingo is. It is everything anyone could want in the hockey game. Creating a dynasty, participating in the draft and creating your own personal team having a fantasy draft are simply a few in the things that can be like a dream be realized. I could not believe the diversity from the commentary, I have played over 500 games but still hear new stuff. NHL 2002 can be a massive improvement over NHL 2001, new in-game features in conjunction with elimination of some errors inside the last one make slideshow very enjoyable game.
As far as graphics, sound and all sorts of around control and gameplay, NHL 2002 is quite well put together. The graphics are some of the most beneficial in the business along with the sounds are extremely accurate to your real thing. Controls do take the time to get utilized to and can seem a tad complicated to begin with, though the basics are simple along with the more complicated controls include experience as with any game. Gameplay is smooth, nothing negative worth mentioning. There is really a very high replay value due to each of the different options and ability to experience ten consecutive seasons with one team.
The one down side to the game is the fact that eventually NHL 2003 is likely to come out and hopefully be bigger and badder than this place. So the very best bet is usually to search because of this in a bargain bin and pick up a genuine bargain of an activity. I give my compliments to EA Sports on this blog, They Score!

If you've always been a fan on the NHL franchise, next the hockey game NHL 09 will probably please you greatly. NHL 09 can be a lot like a role-playing video game where you will get to determine which character you want to choose and then you've to build increase your character in terms of skills and further its career. The game isn't as simple as it could sound as there will likely be a great deal of challenges and obstacles with your path to your eternally successful career. Also, the games are usually challenging and this itself takes a good deal of skill to win.
NHL 09 provides the Be a Pro mode where you've got to build your character before it can get the pro league. Another element of NHL 09 is that the action is collaborated using the EA Sports Hockey League and this also means that you may play your character online rolling around in its multiplayer mode for some other players from all in the world. This means that you may compete and compare your talent against other players to see how your character has progressed. When referring to gameplay, NHL 09 has everthing. The premise in the game is sleek and makes for the very challenging and fun game.
The controls of NHL 09 are fantastic and might be better played using a joypad. However, the controls can be employed in the outdated way if some on the players prefer that. When it appears to graphics, NHL 09 has some really realistic and life-like graphics for someone to experience. The game has some great sound effects too making the action very realistic for your players. The only disadvantage to NHL 09 is that the overall game has some frame rate issues. Besides that NHL 09 can be an amazing game to experience v for anyone.
