Im always hesitant to upgrade any Adobe products as well as the upgrades from Elements several to 4 happen to be no different. I upgraded to 4 for the reason that 3 wouldn't normally run once we switched to Tiger on our Quicksilver. 3 would run fine on two Powerbooks with all the same flavor of Tiger, but not within the Quicksilver???.

So everytime you need to adjust your picture, you could have to push the slider time for 0% and begin out there to determine whats best to your photo. Clearly Adobe recognized their 50% preset was an excessive amount of for most, and changed it-but left from the ability in the user to preset what works ideal for us. Whats damaged whipped cream this and other inflexible/confusing issue? I was told repeatedly that if I wanted what to work better, I should pick the full Photoshop.
That is unacceptable, especially to get a company of Adobes size and good working primarily around the Mac platform. I would go for fewer features realistically work more reliably and, especially involving putting our most used features over a toolbar as an alternative to being forced to grab them outside of deep menus everytime.
In Bridge, these are trying to combine quite a few features obtained in iPhoto, including rating photos by stars, rendering it more flexible. However, it shouldn't allow you to customize your displays or views enough to become efficient, much less an easy task to deal with. The speed of Bridge, especially interacting with 4, is slow. Also particularly irksome would be the lack of sensitivity/responsiveness on the sliders within PE4, brush size and opacity.
So far, Im not impressed together with the Magic Selection Tool, one from the main reasons I wanted to upgrade. It doesnt appear to grab things as efficiently as advertised, although it truly is better than only the Magic Wand 3 had. Im also lower than impressed with another new feature: Adjust Skin Tone, something that might be a huge time saver and will be offering the improvements most of the people care about.
The combined Help program is overly detailed in certain regards, yet leaves out big chunks in the program to suit your needs to guess at solutions. They have which has no tutorials or overviews in the program specifically for your Mac version.
I will update this review as I make use of it more, but I would caution against jumping only at that upgrade until they exercise more on the kinks inside the interface, unless you are a virtual pro and dont mind spending considerable time figuring things out that arent quite Ready For Primetime yet. What I turn to PE for is a thing that allows more extensive editing than iPhoto6 has, yet doesnt have the complexity or cost from the graphics standard Photoshop.
Whether because in the Mac platform changing to Intel chips, or friction between your companies, it seems like Adobe is heading within the wrong direction about the Mac platform, causing us to seem again like the red-haired stepchild within the computer world, while still charging exactly the same as the Windows versions.

I upgraded from Version 2 to 4 since version 3 never was sold for Macs. Frankly, the few improvements Ive encountered werent really worth the price from the product. I find the modern browser function clumsy plus it apparently requires a world wide web connect to become fully functional. Too much bother. The Red-Eye tool failed miserably in auto-mode so I was returning to doing the version 2 procedure. The repair tool may be the best improvement however its still not too automatic. I still use Elements for major photo repair, nevertheless the auto tools in iPhoto less complicated more impressive, specially the straightening tool, that is simple and simple. Since the auto-straighten tool in Elements only works sometime, I usually must resort to some custom rotate and a crop operation. Thats all done in a step with iPhoto.
This technique is an after thought with the mac. The PC version is often a more fully integrated product. Realistically this technique is a waste of capital when run using a mac if in comparison with it run using a PC. The bridge app is cumbersome at best. Iphoto has nothing to fear. Its unfortunate considering the PC version is by far the very best photo management software available for your hobbyist.
This is my first utilization of any PhotoShop product and I am not so impressed. I edit retouch and resize numerous outdoor photos for slideshows and produce extensive use in the Auto Smart Fix feature it usually gives me what I want first trybut when I try to utilize the batch process feature to try and do 200 image file 50 images at the same time for Smart Fix or Resize to new folderElements 4 is hopeless. The batch processor scrambles the order from the output and yes it can take hours to unscramble them. Best to not even use this feature unless you are dealing with very small batches.
I thought it was imposssible to email Adobe Support for virtually every suggestions from them about this problem so I want to look elsewhere for that batch processing capability I want.
I bought the elements prepared to take on my small photo library and enjoy editing. Unfortunately, after photoshop successfully and easily organized my photos, the remaining was downhill. If youre inside market for a photograph organizer, this is really a great product, but if you need to edit photos in ANY way, dont buy your hopes up. It is exhaustingly clumsy! Its editing functions are not intuitive, are slow, and yes it even freezes regularly while editing. I give this 2 stars because of its organizing capabilities and 0 stars because of its editing capabilities. Ill probably get one of these few other products or bare this one for organizing and employ another for editing until someone gets it right.
For the remainder of us who dont really need every one of the power of PhotoShop, this is usually a great product. I hope they draw out a universal binary soon.
For most of what I need, Auto Smart Fix does the work. Sure, I could hand tweak it and find it just a little better, but that of a time saver!
