Dug Ketterman is often a world renowned skatepark designer through an impressive resume of projects under his belt, including multiple X Games courses. How long are you using SketchUp?
Before SketchUp, I had spent a few years countless hours drafting skateparks and ramps manually ,. My dad uses SketchUp for woodworking and suggested I give it a shot. This was way back in 2006 and I ve been using it since. The speed and no-nonsense strategy for modeling had me hooked. I m attending the Art Institute of Portland for my bachelor s in Industrial Design and possess tried several well known 3D modeling softwares, but SketchUp looks like it's the only one that actually works with my brain.
What is significant in skatepark design?
There are lots of things that go to a good design, these all cater to different kinds of skaters. Groups, Groups, Groups. This simple habit will save you against having sticky blob models which are filled with line fragments and impossible-to-edit geometry. I would also suggest you start with basic objects savings around your house and drawing them as much detail as you can. This will produce new challenges and force you beyond your rut.

Along with Eric Schimelpfenig at, we ve been kicking the concept of a Maker Bench around for the few years now. As part-time makers, we always manage to find ourselves retrofitting work spaces, jigs, and tools in new environments. What if it were really, really an easy task to design and build your own workspace, after which bring it around?

Maker Bench: standing or sitting? You decide!

I have included my plugins for SketchUp on my small website. I talk about my plugins as Instant Scripts - Instant roof, Instant Wall, Instant Road Instant Site Grader. A couple more continue to be in development and are added soon. While I really enjoyed my cadmonkey days using Autocad and writing lisps quickly, I have far more fun modeling and writing scripts in SketchUp.
But there exists still a location in architecture for 2d. We are 2-dimensional creatures. We move about in the horizontal plane, then relocate completely to another plane by using a stair or elevator. And builders still layout buildings in 2d. So for architectural tools, my vote is: SketchUp plus 2d cad.

The IESVE plug-in for SketchUp enables the direct translation of models for performance analysis within some of our tools: VE-Ware, VE-Toolkits VE-Gaia, VE-Pro.

VE-Ware and VE-Toolkits were created exclusively for use with this particular plug-in. VE-Gaia and VE-Pro, allow you to definitely edit model properties in more detail if required, and undertake more advance analyses.
