I had SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 in this little laptop. Ive installed SQL Server 2012 and still have finally got SQL Server Data Tools to indicate up, making sure that I can create SSRS reports in Visual Studio 2010.
Although Ive installed Management tools - more often than not - on two separate installments of SQL Server 2012, I cant locate them in Programs and cant run them. The only SSMS program I can find runs SSMS 2008 R2.
I realise that common advice would be to install SQL Server before Visual Studio, but I really dont desire to uninstall Visual Studio, because this will bring a number of other problems.
How can I fix this issue?
Zerotoinfinite: Didn t help me. I had SSMS 2008R2 installed and recently installed SSMS 2012 also. Typing ssms through the Run Command dialog mentioned SSMS 2008R2, not 2012. Fixed the situation by editing the PATH variable, putting the method to 2012 ahead of the method to the 2008R2 Simon Tewsi Jul 12 13 at 0:08
That really helps - thank you! It does now load, however now appears with an error message stating that I need to own the command/resetsettings on the command prompt. I ll try variations out and ensure to put in a comment back here. Andy Brown May 5 12 at 8:50
I guess you'll be able to t have both SSMS 2008 2012 installed while doing so? Re-installing didn t work, so I did the subsequent and it did: 1. Found the for 2008 and ran it using the command prompt like so: actionuninstall featuresTools
2. Did a similar thing to uninstall 2012 3. Restarted my computer 3. Reinstalled SSMS 2012 using actioninstall featuresTools
Is SQL Profiler offered with this. I remember with 2008 you didn t get Profiler after you installed the express version of Management Studio. Micky McQuade Dec 10 12 at 22:31
When you have the installer, you should proceed just like you re likely to install the whole SQL Server package, afterwards in the install process you'll be able to select just to install SSMS. Baodad Jul 24 13 at 18:21
I just ran into this challenge. I had to start back cellular phone for SQL Server and then click Installation - New SQL server installation or add features to existing installation. Then when we continue with the instruction until we reach feature selection, just confirm the SQL Management tools checkbox and continue.
I do not know why whole process almost is considered an attribute and hidden such as this. It must be a stand-alone software installation.
Agree it needs to be more obvious, but a majority of SQL Server installations wont need client tools - they are managed business servers. Mark Jul 26 12 at 4:02
because microsoft realized creating a bunch of disparate installers caused lots of installuninstall headaches. FlavorScape Jan 16 13 at 21:47
It s been this way at least since 2008. I remember being very confused wanting to install SSMS 2008 as I only wanted the consumer tools, not the total server. I found out that although the installer seems like it s gonna install a full server instance initially, when you finally get further along it will give you the option of only installing the buyer tools. Confusing as hell once you come across it, rather than documented well a minimum of, not when I was installing SSMS 2008. Simon Tewsi Jul 12 13 at 0:13
Ive found out that the command line is my buddy in these situations.
I installed the SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Management Tools, including Management Studio, over DVD mounted ISO actually, without installing whatever else using this command:
Run the command prompt with elevated privileges. And be patient, mainly because it has to unpack set up . files. Dont try and install the MSI files directly, since you lose the dependency checking packaged together with the main installer.
Again, this should be to install the total version away from the Enterprise or Developer media, when you have it, and never wish to are satisfied with the free Express edition.
I have installed VS2010 on my own machine, and afterwards the SQL Server 2012 which I have read somewhere is often a problematical sequence. None from the top-voted answers forced me to be install SSMS but yours. Thanks! Ivaylo Slavov Apr 19 at 12:48
On the Official SQL Server 2012 ISO thats for download, just navigate to x64Setup or x86Setup and you'll find. Its no more than 60 MB, furthermore, as its you may probably provision so that it is installed automatically say for just a large lab or classroom environment.
As, Rich in TX shows below, you will need to, apparently, run it from a heightened command prompt? - - you would possibly just right right clicking it and run as administrator - - but YMMV. BrainSlugs83 Jan 15 13 at 3:28
I was very confused at the perceived not enough Management Studio over a newly provisioned SQL Server 2012 SP1 standard and enterprise edition on Azure running on Windows Server 2012.
Eventually, I located C:SQLServer11.0Full, the look install path - executed and confirmed Management Studio what food was in fact installed automatically even even though it could not been seen via Add Remove Programs.
In short, in the event you provision an SQL Server 2012 VM on Windows Server 2012 on Azure simply run PowerShell after which enter to gain access to Management Studio.
Thanks for offering this, just had exactly the same issue on the fresh Server 2012 R2 VM. I d selected the Management Tools feature during SQL installation but after the install had completed I couldn t find Management Studio anywhere. I d likely to see it somewhere about the start screen, however it doesn t add it here automagically. If you press the down arrow for the start menu to see all Apps it is possible to then start to see the SQL Server 2012 folder that may usually be inside Start Programs menu pre-Server 2012. Alternatively type ssms into your search. Alex Marshall Oct 19 13 at 6:45
After going back to the installer checking off Management Tools, was available under C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server110ToolsBinnManagementStudio as a result of everyone for declaring where to seek out it.
This wouldn't require any TechNet rigamarole or use of the horrible Java 7 based download manager.
Just with the record, that link would go to the download of SQL Server 1012 Express, including the SSMS Express version. This is not exactly the same as the total SSMS, which might or most likely are not what the OP or anybody else needs. Andrew Barber Feb 13 13 at 21:51
Andrew Barber: What does the complete SSMS include which the SSMS 2012 Express lacks? I installed the Express version and was surprised to notice included SQL Profiler, the Activity Monitor and standard reports, such as All Blocking Transactions report. I note the Activity Monitor doesn t work by having an instance of SQL 2008 R2 but I m unsure if that is something related to Express or whether SSMS didn t install properly it seems in my tool bar without having a logo of any sort, suggesting something could possibly have gone just a little wrong during install. Simon Tewsi Jul 12 13 at 0:19
Mordachai I went for the one aswell - additional site didnt even manage to work properly! I finished up consulting wikipedia which at time of writing had information regarding which on the cryptically named installers I should download. Maybe they are wanting to emulate the horror you go through when seeking to find an installer for oracle products? Jonny Leeds Mar 26 14 at 16:58
I uninstalled all the parts of SQL Server 2012 using Control Panel in Windows then reinstalled choosing All Features. Now it functions!
For separate modules x86 and x64, in the event you want a customized installation without downloading tons of crap, see Servers Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express.
I downloaded it came from here named Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools. In this version you'll receive a Visual Studio 2012 installation with all the functionality to handle the SQL Server 2012 server.
Install SQLEXPRADVx64ENU for x64 bit version at this point and choose to fit all components. This installs SQL Server Management Studio. You may also install Reporting Services on this installation.
Express with Advanced Services has the database engine, Express Tools, Reporting Services, and Full Text Search/
Although SQL Server Management Studio installation is simple to use more or less people still often bump into different issues. There are lots of tutorials and instructions online, and I personally followed the approaches found in this informative article: /sql-server-management-studio-step-step-installation-guide/
It explains installing a standalone SSMS, but you'll be able to also install SSMS in addition to SQL Server just be sure that you could have selected Management Tools from the Feature selection screen.
It will help if youve just installed Visual Studio 2010 but also need to install SQL Server Management Studio.

Theres an interesting blog post about how exactly to download SQL Server Express from Long Zheng. It surprisingly how complex some companies make downloading things. Ive always belief that a giant Download Now button is best way, but perhaps thats just me?
Downloading SQL Server Express is unnecessarily hard, as well as made harder with the new Microsoft Download Center download multiple files interface that doesnt include descriptions or primary file recommendations. It should be an index of links, and you will be competent to right click and Save As.
So, Ive done the HTTP sniffing and work, and written this web site post inside hopes it helps you together with Im bookmarking it for myself, to the future.

I havent needed to download Express in forever but attemptedto get VS Express for my 12-year-old son one other day so he could write code to the finch robot. Its a really similar problem but rather of Express w/tools or management studio alone, etc you will need to decide getting in touch with get the web or windows version etc.
People a novice to dev and even more likely to download Express wont are aware of the difference.
Perhaps links should say something such as this?
Want to build your own website?
Want to write down a cool game that runs in just a browser like IE?
Want to operate an immersive app that may run on your smartphone?
Want to view a cool demonstration of what you could do using this type of?
I did find the download but it really was confusing, still dont get DreamSpark connection either but wasnt enthusiastic about finding out either

Tuesday, 17 June 2014 20:32:13 UTC
I wonder why it shouldn't use the web platform installer.
Its an incredible tool and that is made exactly for your, and yes it even has sql server express 2008 within it.

Went through this pain only a week ago, looking to upgrade to SQL Server Management Studio 2014 for better Azure comparability. Chose an incorrect file twice just before the right one. Had no clue that has been the correct download based about the list of files within the MS site. Just lucky, I guess it didnt harder! Thanks Scott.

Ive come upon similar woes since needing to rebuild my VM, so this is often a welcome help and quick link. I went a step further and started utilizing BoxStarter, which allowed me to Visual Studio, SQL Server Express, plus much more into a computerized script so I could settle back and install deploy. Heres a article I did on received it.

1 to the Management Studio links. I have spent several times searching for your download.
Wednesday, 18 June 2014 02:15:21 UTC
Thanks Scott, that is very useful. As one who develops on and uses SQL express continuously, I found/find the modern download process so annoying that I now carry SQL express with me over a USB drive.
Now hopefully I can come back to downloading it online when needed.

Do moreover, you may know how to eradicate these plenty of SQL Server programs?
I bought my computer with Win8 in September not too long ago. I never installed SQL Server and I have this inside my Programs and Features list:
Microsoft SQL Server Compact 4.0 SP1 x64 ENU
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - enu 12.0.40403.0
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools Build Utilities - enu 12.0.40403.0
Maybe somebody can identify the SQL Server guys it doesnt sound right to list another program when you cant apply it separately without one other stuff. To install/uninstall highlights of any program you should make use of the Change button.
I also dont love old versions. They could be overwritten with all the new version whenever any program installs the newer version.
And exactly the same goes for Microsoft Visual C 20xx Redistributable certainly. I also have 12 of such.
Wednesday, 18 June 2014 08:00:42 UTC
Normally a google with bing search itself takes me on the download center page, containing all but listed components of what you would like to download, making sure that should be ok.
I am surprised, someone visits marketing site and hope to discover a direct hyperlink to download, arent we the techie who ought to know better?
Wednesday, 18 June 2014 08:21:48 UTC
Single result shown - select the circular, down arrow icon button to receive the download report on files to seem.
In results select the big radio button labelled Downloads instead on the current All selection.
Single result shown - click on the circular, down arrow button to find the download number of files appear.
It was trivial and natural to complete either from the above IMHO. So far so great. The only real thing wrong along with it is that you just just receive the raw file names but even from that I can perform it out essentially. Dont know the MSIs at the pinnacle were for.
Looking at the whole download page the Details section explains clearly what things are all. So if MS combined those details within an expandable section for every file and such as your links Scott gave nice link text, the merchandise title as inside the details not the filename then I think that might pretty much sort against each other.

Any similarity while using heavy handed way to attempt to force Windows 8.1 users to train on a Microsoft Account as main logging is just not accidental.
In the context with the equally heavy handed tentative with the various US justice department to have access to MS servers across the world, that is becoming a cause of rejecting MS tools and products.
I think many MS marketing people needs to be sent behind the wood shed and shot at dawn. For the good in the company.

As an afterthought, this case is seriously aggravated bu the deficiency of a place where I can provide feedback.
For instance, it's impossible in W8.1u1 to vary a new wifi network to private for those who have UAC maxed using a non administrator account.
No way, just as no method to get a credential prompt to mend things.
I experimented with report this as some type of bugusability problem, got lost in the maze of web pages looking to get me to work with my freepayed support options.
This is bordering on autism.

I agree the Download center could definitely work with a redesign. It does look somewhat like the download pages were designed by way of a team of lawyers, and isn't nearly as obvious when your post. I first never go directly on the download center either.
I try to find what Im looking for then somehow stumble on for the download page. Then as time passes of searching I get the download button. I click it a dialogue appears with many choices with a listing of possible options, that none seem correct. I close the dialogue. I search for that secret dictionary describing the exe names. Its needless to say hidden inside the minimized detail section within the page behind the dialog the is during my face. Once I think I find the main one I want I either make an effort to remember the name or copy/paste it somewhere. I hit the download button again search for your exe name. Hope I selected the best one, and after that download it. Typically I handle the installation then realize I installed an unacceptable version then start this process over again. That is my typical experience together with the download center. It is really a tiny bit confusing understandably. Simple improvement could be longer more informative EXE names or descriptions close to them around the dialog box. I would have gotten no idea WT means With tools if the post wouldnt have pointed it. I think your solution is often a good one. I just wish the Download Center did things much more that.
Thanks to create this one tiny corner from the internet an even better place.
Wednesday, 18 June 2014 12:52:21 UTC
I hope this post helps it be on to Satyas radar and hubby makes someone begin doing something concerning this. It is ridiculous how complicated MS helps it be to download software and the way poor the grade of many in their websites are MSDN blogs, TechNet.
Even the Roslyn CTP, which can be from Dev Div and youd think could possibly be straightforward, required someone to download some stupid download manager in order to fit it.

I just have SQL Server Management Studio.
Maybe I should get my DBA certification first, however when I go here1, go through the big red DOWNLOAD button and select the file MgmtStudio, I get a large old 640 MB self-extracting file. When I run that, I get a multiple-menus-deep squeeze page, which doesnt list SQL Server Management Studio anywhere.
I note that among the extracted files, theres an incredibly tempting file called, but alas, it wont actually install anything.

Wednesday, 25 June 2014 15:02:42 UTC
Apparently, I am. From the squeeze page, you need to follow Installation New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features with an existing installation, which starts another installer, which downloads another installer, which actually installs SSMS. All 1023 MB than it.
Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:46:01 UTC

Thank for repeating this and all of another good stuff youve for us developers throughout the years!
Friday, 27 June 2014 04:53:09 UTC
Its amazing how many times one thinks these are an idiot then it turns out that everyone is having just as often trouble with such-and-such jointly is.
Microsoft websites definitely have problems with a absence of adherence towards the SRP.
They are clearly developed with numerous competing constraints under consideration but typically become so convoluted and generalised, as for being specifically useless.
The download sites undoubtedly are a classic example. You can eventually have the job done but you will need to grit your teeth and clench your buttocks the main way through and in many cases then you typically only know whether you've got the right thing once youve downloaded and installed the incorrect thing at the very least once.
Downloads are, in my opinion, a piece of search, and Microsoft just doesnt do search perfectly at all.
So I typically Google for I want and have some blog or any other point me in the thing I need in lieu of relying on insanely decontextualised UI that this MS download centre provides.

Hello Dear Reader! This is the primary Tuesday on the month so you know what this means. Its time to announce the T-SQL Tuesday Topic with the month! This is your possibility to participate inside largest SQL Blog party within the intrawebs.
T-SQL Tuesday is surely an event started by Adam Machanic AdamMachanic Blog back 2009. The basic idea one blogger hosts the party while others participate. We announce the topic the 1st Tuesday on the month, December 1
2015 for today, and everyone will post their blogs for the second Tuesday from the month, December 8
2015 for that actual posts. This month the host is none other than. drum roll. ME!
If you follow me in web 2 . 0, you could possibly have seen my announcement that Ive joined Microsoft. Late in October I resigned my position at Pragmatic Works being a Senior Business Intelligence Consultant and accepted a suggestion from Microsoft to participate in their Education Specialty Teams Unit as being a Data Platform Solutions Architect. This is a very awesome opportunity then one that Im so very pumped up about but I wished to take several moments to express my reasons forresigning fromPragmatic Works and joining Microsoft.
Thiswas an immensely difficult decision that I didn't make lightly. I spent on the month thinking, praying, and talking to my wifeabout your choice. For the past seven years Ive loved working, growing, and learning while using wonderful people at Pragmatic Works so I knew any opportunity I would consider would should be the exact right opportunity. But in the end the consideration both my lady and I felt like until this was an opportunity we had arrived led to understanding that was suitable for our family at this stage and time.
I knew that transitioning from your consultant into a solutions architect position would challenge me and force me to stretch and grow. I felt like how the opportunity at Microsoft offers me the opportunity to continue my learning with a different level and this can be one on the things that led me to Microsoft.
Also, the info technology field has been evolving so mind-numbingly fast the reason is impossible to remain abreast of the many changes, update, and products. Working with Microsoft provides me the probability to learn and work withthese technology before theyre even released. With Microsoft, I can stay about the bleeding fringe of Microsofts data platform.
My position at Microsoft also affords me the capability to work from home unless Im within the road. Time with my loved ones and children can be quite important if you ask me. Working from home affords me the posh of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner with my partner and babies. My kids are maturing and changing so quickly andI wish to be there as much from it as possible.
So how things be changing you will come to? Well, Im within a brand new role facing a terrific challenge to understand the ins and outs of a couple of quickly changing technology which means you notice that Im not posting typically.
Also, the topics I do post on may rise in variety of topic.Previously I was neck deep operational intelligence which isnt a bad thing! BI is awesome! the good news is Ill be using the services of customers and technologies along the data platform.
I know this is likely to be a fantastic journey and learning opportunity and I cant wait to share with you what Im learning along, my girlfriends and fellow nerds!
Hello Dear Reader! Last week I posted the invitation to T-SQL Tuesday 73. The premise?
As you use SQL Server check around you. Is your environment Naughty or Nice? If it is Naughty whats wrong from it? What would you do to solve it? Do you've got a scrooge which is giving you the Christmas chills? Perhaps you've got servers of past, present, and future haunting you. Maybe you are taking a look at SQL Server 2016 like some bright shining star inside east.
I do not have an environment of my. Not one that I are able to interact with everyday. Recently Ive had several experiences where some friends with assorted companies were having issues along with the root cause was all hardware. Memory, SAN, or CPU one had be a bottleneck.
Several needed to do with I/O. One had complications with their SAN, another had difficulties with their code causing unnecessary I/O, and another on the Azure VM.
So Balls, you say, What does this have to complete with Naughty Nice?
As always Dear Reader, many thanks keeping me to normal. For immediately Im about to tackle how IOps could affect your SQL Server. Ill be combining this with all the pseudo code to mimic the problem my client had. Then a bit on Azure VMs, and just how Premium Storage made a huge difference.
Ive got a very bad query. This is from years past. Lots of unnecessary row by row logic. Duplicate logic. Its bad.
Over the very last five years, training and education have noticed drastic alterations in how course material is delivered. The reason is because a lot of students simply cannot attend a workout class which includes a set start and end time and/or consumes twenty to thirty hours with their week. The reality for a lot of us is the fact that work comes first, and yes it is impossible to become completely disconnected from your regular nine to five job to attend an exercise class.
With technology training, it is even more prevalent due to how frequently the technology itself changes. Being able to maintain has never been much harder. So what is the next step? Do you send your team to training over and once again and hope that actually work emergencies dont constantly pull them from a coach led class?
The response is self-paced training. That means attending training if it suits you and never when a company schedules it. It means being able to master anywhere, including on tablets and phones, not only from a classroom.
The sell for self-paced training keeps growing. There are many companies already providing such type of training and a few are even intended for free. So how are you aware of which to select? How do I know the company I choose may have what I need and make their training updated? What if I really must talk to someone with questions I have regarding the class or how Im planning to implement this inside my organization?
Bottom line, seek information. You have to seek out the company and courses that work well best with the needs and schedule. Often times, companies tout the quantity of courses they have and you will find out in short order that their classes make you begging to get more. These classes offer you nothing a lot more than a cursory overview, something Pragmatic Works offers inside our Free Training webinars, as an alternative to the deep dive you actually need.
For many people, on-demand training will never become the right fit. Some people learn best when they've got a live instructor to talk with. If that may be the case, there are numerous alternatives for that you consider. First, you'll be able to attend an in-person workshop. These is taught all around the planet and often allow that you have an individual interaction together with the instructor. Next, in case you still such as the idea of digital training but definitely like a bit help, then consider virtual training. Rather than allowing you on your individual, virtual courses offers guidance inside the form of an virtual mentor. These classes give you the capacity to learn on the comfort of your office or home while still providing you the instructor interaction.
Do pursuit. Make sure the package you end up picking has programs and provides you with the time needed to absorb the information.
Remember the huge benefits! You can learn when, where and just how you want.
Self-paced training is probably not right available for you. There are plenty of great instructor-taught courses out there.
Do you like in-person, virtual, or self-paced training? Let us know which that suits you and why from the comments below.
Recently I worked on the neat little POC with Patrick Leblancfor a buyer in Education who wanted to perform sentiment analysis and key word extraction on surveys performed by students regarding classes and instructors, that can bring me to this article.
Using Azure ML along with a free subscription to your Text Analytics API, Im going to exhibit you tips on how to perform sentiment analysis and search phrase extraction on tweets withthe hashtag Colts after that past Sundays 51-16 beat down in the Colts on the hands in the Jacksonville Jaguars, Im bathing inside tears of Colts fans. Watch the highlights!. Although my example here's somewhat humorous, the steps can be utilized to perform sentiment analysis and keyword and key phrase extraction on any text data as long as you are able to get the details into Power Query.
Subscribe towards the Text Analytics API, which you may find here: /dataset/amla/text-analytics.
Ive subscribed towards the free subscription since I dont need in excess of 10, 000 transactions/month.
If you wish to analyze tweets like I are going to be doing, youll must download Plus One Social, a nifty little tool that can pull extract tweets and load them into an Access database. Download Plus One Social here: /. Using Plus One is pretty easy, but when you need instruction on how to utilize the app, Plus One has a terrific getting started video on YouTube: /watch?vviXHXrDGQaA.
After starting the subscription on the Text Analytics API and downloading the Plus One app, I used Plus One to search to the Colts hashtag on Twitter. This allowed me to download a full of 5, 022 tweets from 3, 011 distinct total messengers.
That ought to be enough tears because of this demo. ;
After running the app, an Access database is produced with each of the info I should analyze the sentiment in the tweets and extract the true secret phrases. The Plus One Accessdatabase is created automagically in my Documents folders in aPlus One Social folder.
Next, Ill open Excel and make a Power Query to pull inside data while using tweets on the Access database created with the Plus One Social app. Open Excel, go the Data ribbon, click New Query, select From Database, and select the possibility From Microsoft Access Database:

i just installed sql server 2008 r2 and SQL Server Management Studio. After installation i learned that the SQL Server Management Studio will not be installed.
i wanted to put in SQL Server Management Studio, but cannot find set up . for this. Any idea how to set up it?
Did you include Management Tools like a chosen option during setup?
Ensure this approach is selected, and SQL Server Management Studio is going to be installed around the machine.
I know that is an old question, but Ive just had the identical frustrating issue for any couple of hours and needed to share my solution. In my case an opportunity Managements Tools wasnt available from the installation menu either. It wasnt just greyed out as disabled or already installed, but alternatively just missing, it wasnt anywhere for the menu.
So what finally worked in my opinion was to make use of the Web Platform Installer 4.0, and look this for installation: Products Database Sql Server 2008 R2 Management Objects. Once this really is done, it is possible to relaunch not hard to install and Management Tools can look like previous answers stated.
Note there could be also a Sql Server 2012 Shared Management Objects, but I think that is for different purposes.
Hope this saves someone the pair of hours I wasted into this.
If you could have a copy of backup of SQL Server setup you then could add features Management Tools Basic/Complete since you requested.
Right Click, select Change/Uninstall
And just do it with process for complete installation.
Now you need, SQL Server Management Studio and you may browse your databases.
SQL profiler: is absolutely usefull tool when getting insight into your database. SQL Server Profiler can be a rich interface to make and manage traces and analyze and replay trace results. Offical team blog for SSDT, an instrument for on and off-premise database development
Hello all, there are some questions around our support for several Visual Studio versions plus the update mechanism on their behalf. I hope it will help clarify some on the questions:
Visual Studio 2013 - VS 2013 is now offering SQL Server tooling inbuilt and shipped as part in the core product. Database Projects, SQL tools for example schema compare data compare, and also the online experiences through SSOX are all offered with the RTM version. We have full project and SSOX support in VS Express for Web and Express for Windows Desktop, so we've got discontinued our stand-alone integrated shell offering. We possess a component update feed that may use VS Update to push notification to users. To manually pay attention to updates, go to your Tools Extensions and menu to open up the dialog. We will keep post announcements on our blog and forum a release can be acquired and what is a part of that update.
Visual Studio 2012 - We still is going to be supporting the standalone integrated shell offering at the same time as updates for Professional, Premium, and Ultimate. Since some Visual Studio features are choosing our APIs inside the express SKU, our updates should also apply to VS Express for Web and Express for Windows Desktop regardless of whether our full project system isnt available. Updates to VS 2012 will probably be offered on our MSDN page and to check out updates, users could check our update feed by about to the SQL Check for Updates menu to spread out the dialog.
Visual Studio 2010 - Since the relieve Visual Studio 2013, were no longer offering updates for SSDT about the Visual Studio 2010 shell. To get updates, users will should move to VS 2012 or VS 2013. Our current plan should be to support two shell versions for a time.
Why have you take along the December 2013 release for VS2010!?! We have new machines with VS2010 to them and no approach to set up the product making sure that these machines are in sync with your other existing developer machines running VS2010. I can see not updating the product or service any longer but to pack up the setup file is excessive.
To clarify, is always that Visual Studio 2013 PROFESSIONAL and up that can include SSDT? If I download VS2013 express will I have the capacity to use SSDT?
Removing SSDT installer for VS 2010 is not really right.
I just installed SQL Server 2012 over a dev box, and included BIDS and management tools. The install completed, and I will have a shortcut for SSDT around my Start Menu. It launches Visual Studio 2010 not VS 2012 or VS 2013! When I try to spread out an existing database project, it prompts me to download SSDT, takes me to some web page that informs me my VS version is don't supported!
Huh? We buy SQL Server 2012 and expect to manage to use the tools that come in addition to it. We cannot upgrade to VS 2012 or VS 2013 as I understand they're lacking full support for existing SSRS, SSAS, SSIS and DB deploy projects!
Microsoft, you'll be able to do greater than this. At least don t trim your loyal SSDT developers off in the knees.
I needed vs 2010 latest release too, don t worry about update, we re mid development and I m starting deploys, can t upgrade in the moment. For those of you from the same spot, the earlier link is still equipped with te download available
I just installed SSRS 2012 with a Win2012 computer that could become a SSRS 2012 report server. SQL Server Data Tools formerly BIDS- Now SSDT-BI for VS2010 was installed to be a component from the SSRS 2012 installation. I also installed all with the post VS2010SP1 updates available immediately afterwards.
I can t discover the Report Builder Model Project anywhere precisely the Report Server Project for Report Writer projects. I checked the installed templates not there and tried finding it online Online Templates. What am I missing?
Just found a TechNet SQL Forum thread that indicates Microsoft initiated a policy of to abandon Report Model Project support you start with SSRS 2012? Seriously??!! Could someone please explain what SSRS 2005-2008R2 clients are supposed to perform now when they've got numerous Report Model Projects constantly in place that have triggered thousands of Report Builder reports being created and saved through the years? Please advise!
Right so just reading /visual-studio-2013-support-for-ssdt-and-ssdtbi doesn t appear there is certainly support for BI Templates in VS2013 for SQL 2012 Projects is always that right? Such a pain from the neck SQL/VS versions, Jamie the next occasion you catch up with all the Product team is it possible to give them a clip around the ear:
Hello Jill, this morning I found out that apparently there is usually a new version of SSDT BI for VS2012, however within the blog you mentionend there is certainly no single info on that. That blog seems anyway more marketing than technology. This blog is known as SQL Server Data Tools TEAM Blog so I would expect to acquire all the infos about SSDT here, I understand that there is just not one team but two and they apparently work different. However from the customers perspective this can be totally irrelevant. From customers perspective it is frustrating to should hunt for details about products that we on the daily base defend within our job role against colleagues and customers. The download center has not yet the least information on exactly what the version contains or what did switch the signal from previous release.
I do very much appreciate the you are giving us here about the blog, but MSFT like a company is absolutely doing a really very poor job in providing us while using relevant technical info on their products. Maybe you may give this feedback for the relevant channels as well as your colleagues from SSDT-BI, maybe they find motivation to blog here regarding SSDT when there are many technical changes ;-
Just started using SSDT and I wondered when we will start to see the option in order to save the SqlDataCompare files like we are able to Save the SqlSchemaCompare files? I m hoping soon mainly because it would make maintaining metadata lookup tables a great deal easier!
Hi Everyone, to answer some questions/issues:
SSDT and SSDT-BI are very different teams with various release cadence and SKU support. It is unfortunate that this branding can be so close, but currently we won t be addressing both product questions on your blog. You can post towards the child BI blogs for specific AS, RS, or IS questions as I do understand the complete BI blog probably won t get you the right audience.
Dev10 support was deprecated and we have been encouraging individuals to move up and we all limit our variety of SKUs for forum, connect, and CSS support. I will take the request on the team to maintain the installer around, but we highly encourage moving so that you maintain support and I will not anticipate we shall keep the connection to Dev10.
To the info compare file question, that can be included in this next update which will probably be coming out soon. An announcement will probably be on your blog with what is new from the update.
What about ignore column order?
Is there a map to return this feature?
Thanks for your update within the data compare file question!
One other thing I needed to ask/suggest. We are employing SSDT with LocalDB for growth of our database project. Our production server includes a Full-text Catalog but LocalDB will not support it so after we try and deploy the database project to LocalDB it fails using the Cannot use full-text search in user instance. error.
We go around this by setting the Build Action to None for the Full-text Catalog script along with the publish to LocalDB works properly, but carrying this out causes the Full-text Catalog script to always come up inside a SQL Data Compare session as a whole new item that needs being added towards the database project.
It can be great should you could show up with a strategy to allow the script file to become included in data comparisons but exclude it from being built in the script useful for publishing. My thought would be to feature an additional Build Action that acts like Build for your data comparison and None when building the script for publish.
Sorry one correction, the matter is with SQL Schema Compare not SQL Data Compare.
This is often a very nice and important feature existed in pre-vs2012 versions. I don t know why it s removed from vs2012, but will there be any timeline set to take it back?

Hey Eric, Thanks just for this wonderful collection.
Mustafa There have been hundreds of 1000s of successful downloads from the eBooks already since I set up my posts, so I will not believe this can be a common experience for those. I do possess a couple of thoughts though:
1 Have you tried right-clicking for the eBook you wish to download and selecting Save Target As to avoid wasting the eBook download directly rather than clicking the link to look at the eBook link first?
2 It also seems like you may be behind a firewall that is certainly blocking un-recognized sites, that is blocking the download from beginning. If that is the case, you may would like to try again from another location.
I hope that one these two options assists you to get the eBooks you are in search of.
