Having used OmniPage since its beginning, I have been irritated because of the companys practice of releasing software before it's driven the bugs out. That doesn't appear to be a challenge in it. The software loaded cleanly and came out and works properly.
As one could expect after 15 shots advertising, character recognition is often excellent.
The big advance was in speed of operation. Compared to ver. 14, this version flies, that will probably be the advance of greatest interest to users.
The interface remains non-user-friendly. New users go crazy looking to figure out understanding it, but once you need to do, its worthwhile.

I purchased this supplement two weeks ago to convert some PDF files to searchable format. When I can get the OCR to get started on it did a superb job of converting the written text. The interface was hard to use, as well as in about 20% with the runs the approval would hang before commencing the conversion. When I attemptedto use create batch scans the device crashed while I was configuring it in 100% in the runs.

As some type of computer scientist of 20 years, Ive seen my share of buggy code, frustrating application GUIs and useless tech support. But I must claim that Scansofts Omnipage is more than even the worst apps Ive ever used and I manipulate a lot. Im capable to crash the appliance in several ways- all repeatable. Some on the problems are more random however they all involve crashes or hangs that wind up loosing anything you were focusing on. Ive submitted a great number of bugs to their tech support- which is why I have the pleasure to pay them 19.95 per incident. Most of their responses involve it really works for me or some sort of unacceptable work around which no man should ever need to subject themselves. They have yet to address the condition head on.
Its amazing in my experience that this kind of bad product has an important market share - is market they canrrrt attract more competitors? It certainly doesnt feel like it would be very difficult to provide a much better product than this.
The only free support they'll use to provide would have been a message board where customers could post problems and continue to help one another. They now no more let anyone register to post on these boards- probably because citizens were writing about how bad this product and company support
I suggest you try any package than this before heading with Omnipage. This should just be a last resort- and then you must prepare yourself to the frustration, anger and disappointment.
BTW- If you must use this system, steer clear of the proof reader tool without exceptions. Many with the crashes and problems originate from this tool yet not all.

If you lack a scanner that is certainly on their list of scanners held by Nuance, it is likely you should avoid this like the plague. My HP 3970 is just a year old, yet Omnipage 15 isn't fully functional while using HP driver. When I checked this list, it wasn't on it. Do you suppose some may have made compatibility issues more explicit inside their promotion? I ought to scan pages of any multi-page document one by one because the Add more pages button, as soon as the first scan, won't contact the scanner; it only adds an additional image on the previous page. I bought OmniPage 15 yesterday morning being a download, and have absolutely been wanting to activate it since that time. After several calls to customer care, forty minutes on hold to talk with a tech rep who emailed me two links that do not open, Im no much better being competent to use this program. It appeared to work okay inside the few intro uses allowed prior to deciding to had to activate to keep, but even it kept looking to reload with every page I scanned in.
The product might be a fantastic one-Im not only a fair judge of that-if only it is possible to get it to figure. As others have stated, tech support is pricey. If my experience is any measure, it is also worthless.
Customer service is unresponsive, unpleasant, and unprofessional. In one call to Customer Service, I was asked if I typed the letters within the serial number as capitals and also the Os as zeroes. When assured that I had, more than once, she replied, Then I cant help you-call the tech department, and abruptly hung up. Omnipage is usually a buggy software application which is vulnerable to throwing errors and mysterious crashes often occuring at the end of an lengthy process. At the value I was expecting more of any Cadillac, nevertheless the interface is usually a bit sparse and functional. No power leather seats here. The help is bound. The 94 page manual is on CD - better use a color laser handy. Some features are simply just part on the much more expensive Professional series no scanner TWAIN drivers included.
That said, it's got lots of features and power. It seems especially adapted to automatic and batch modes. Its not for that casual user or beginner. Those that contain LOTS of documents to convert is certain to get use going without running shoes and as if it.
The previous version Ominpage 14 sell for a lot less. I recommend you get started with that. Nothing from the latest version 15 generally seems to command this sort of price.

The product performs inconsistently. It failed miserably in the event it tried OCR on the page printed in comic sans, as an example, mistaking for gs, and s as, etc. In short it turned out worthless for scanning in something as simple like a list of names and contact information.
Its OK when you are performing some fonts. And generally is able to figure out in which the images are. The interface is supposed being simple, but is counter-intuitive, and confusing to know.
Scanners are iffy - - may work, may well not, so you should definitely test inside the 30 day trial period.
Support? Forget if you don't want to pay. Not even an individual support call is included inside package.
I will NOT buy or upgrade with this particular company again unless they can be willing to produce at least a minimum of any couple of support calls or emails.
Ive had the majority of the versions before this, and being honest like this less than the concepts before.

The real headache began when I attemptedto activate this system. I spent hours attempting to activate it, with no success. I got messages saying that this serial number was invalid plus a host of other concerns. Now, I would similar to to get my money-back. I used ScanSofts stuff inside the past and possess been pleased by it, but, for reasons uknown, OmniPage 15 is now, to me, a costly nightmare. After having spent many hours wanting to activate it, I have not succeeded. Their support leaves a lot to get desired. For one thing, they keep bankers hours so dont expect to obtain any help for the weekend or after hours.

I bought 15 licenses of the product for my property appraisal business. We considered several OCR products including ABBYYs product. When we tested them together next to each other, nine times from ten, OmniPage produced an even better and much cleaner document. I am always skeptical of the latest software products until they've been beaten to death and proven inside marketplace. During my product research I found the product consistently ranked at the top from the OCR heap. After utilizing it I believe the hype - its OCR is incredible.
