Discover books, discover more about writers, read author blogs, and even more. As the title to my review suggests, if I were forced to describe this book in a single sentence, that's the sentence I would have to make use of.
If someone which has a rudimentary comprehension of web design somebody that knew the fundamentals, including what XHTML tags do, and somebody who has a decent grasp on tips on how to put together static internet pages asked me what one book they must buy so that you can better their website development skills, PHP Web Development with Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 could be the book I would suggest for them. The reasons because of this, I cite below. I also cite below why I would recommend this book to anyone who - - like myself - - is hesitant to look into designing dynamic websites, especially anyone who may be hesitant to placed their feet down and make the leap into PHP; the most used scripting language inside the world today for dynamic website solutions.
First off, I think the authors of the book exceed expectations the call of duty with their subject matter, because they included several chapters with this book that - - as it happens - - didnt need to be included. Had they followed a comparable route to lots of technical books out about the market nowadays, they are able to simply have included the bare-bones level of information was required to do what are the title from the book implies: develop dynamic PHP websites in DWMX 2004. However, the ebook would are actually half the scale, and for that reason much the worse for doing this had they made a decision to take that route. I, and Im sure all kinds of other readers on the book are thankful how they didnt take that route.
Instead, they include four chapters which make this book an important addition to your shelf from a web designer who uses Macromedia Dreamweaver software to create websites. Read more

Id prefer to give this book five stars because I think the protection of Dreamweaver from the area of PHP development is well written and effective. The problem is that this book meanders off topic every now and then. Getting deep into basic Dreamweaver features like basic editing, HTML layout, and CSS, a long time before getting into PHP. Its not until chapter five page 153 that people really start to obtain into PHP.
The coverage then chimes topic again following the introduction to PHP, to acquire into writing Dreamweaver extensions. Which while interesting, is probably not just what the reader was expecting in the title with the book.
Its difficult to compare this book using a straight PHP website design book as the PHP coverage is through the Dreamweaver GUI perspective, where you could use the server behaviors features to drag-n-drop fields into the page.
For those looking to get a soup to nuts book that covers using Dreamweaver to create dynamic PHP pages, you could have found your book. For those searching for coverage on the PHP specific top features of Dreamweaver, this book will be worth the look. If you are looking for just a reference or review of PHP, this is not it you want.

Beginning July and this also book has finally shipped! I Got it earlier this week and I am only midway into it, but it really seems like a wise investment Finally the sunday paper that explains the many aspect of using PHP and MySQL with DreamWeaver MX2004. Most of it can be applicable to DreamWeaver MX 6.x.
The submissions are excellent and rapidly somewhat dry way with words very well structured sufficient reason for great depth. Many other books failed to convey the full idea of using PHP in DMX but this finally utilizes me. Not only do they provide great advice, however the debuggingtrouble shooting section is extensive and definitely helpful for beginners at all like me and intermediates. Its not easy reading but not as enjoyable as Jeffrey Zeldmans Designing with Web Standards but which may be due to your topic and covered material. Databases are somewhat complex naturally.
The only thing I dont particularily cherish is the layout. It starts using a typewriter style Table of Contents and ripples thru the novel with somewhat inconsistent layout. Some pictures have capitons others dont, some paragrahps are wider than the others despite being in the same importance etc. But thats mostly for that eye.
There isn't CD included with the samples but which can be a great thing. Since learning by doing is less capable when taking shortcuts and just loading the examples. However, if you do not like typing, the authors website provides downloads.
Thank you to your feedback.

I experienced a little information about PHP and MySQL coupled with worked through part associated with an introductory book about the subject, but I really hate programming although it seems Im made to learn something as I progress in my web design career. So I acquired PHP Web Development w/Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 because I thought it'd take some on the pain outside of creating a dynamic site database-driven completely from scratch.
While the stuff I learned from your other book syntax basics, etc. offered me a pretty fair foundation, this book showed new horizons. Its so competent to be able make use of Dreamweaver to automate a lot of what goes in a dynamic site. Also, this book discusses the free PHPMyAdmin making creation and administration of databases a breeze BTW Im a Mac OS X user.
Not only was I competent to work with the exercises in relatively short order, I was thrilled to find that one on the authors David Powers checks into your Apress forums around the website and personally reduced the problem when I have got to hurdles. That may not at all times be the case, nonetheless it was a supplementary benefit I found after purchasing the ebook.
I think the novel was coded in just the right style. I a little bit of PHP/MySQL experience which helped but the ebook went detailed each step I was likely to take so regardless of whether I didnt have that experience, I was in a position to follow along. The great thing about PHP and MySQL is which they are both FREE and open source so IT COSTS NOTHING to assembled a dynamic, database-driven site. This book assists you to do just that. I still need a long way to look as far for being able to assembled my own site completely from scratch, but this book was fantastic. I will get back on page one and re-read it really to make sure Iget the concepts down.
I recommend this book very highly and possess never written a novel review before to ensure that speaks for itself.
Thank you on your feedback.

The Good Extremely powerful Web development app; new support for CSS; start-up page simplifies options; verifies code for multiple browsers.
The Bad Steep learning curve; expensive tech-support options following 90-day free period.
The Bottom Line If you need the most recent in Web site development, Dreamweaver will be the best investment; however it is overkill for casual users.
Dreamweaver is really a seriously big application with advanced development tools for Web site design and maintenance. It lets designers swiftly create layouts, and developers incorporate the newest in data-driven applications. Sporting a relatively uncluttered but intricate interface, Dreamweaver MX 2004 offers quite a bit of handholding inside the form of automatic code generation and supplies an excellent interface for directly accessing HTML code. This version adds features with the newest Active Server components and much more powerful Cascading Style Sheet CSS support. Dreamweaver isnt for every individual, though. Adobe shops may well be more comfortable with GoLive, and nonprofessional site designers should look into the less formidable and fewer powerful Microsoft offering: FrontPage.
We installed the Windows version of Dreamweaver MX 2004, which had been snappy, besides having to activate the item by Internet or by telephone. Stuffed with cutting-edge Web design and development tools, Dreamweaver MX 2004 is unquestionably not for that casual site designer. The interface is almost certainly intricate, requiring a rather time-consuming learning curve, along with the new version adds a slew of recent tools. A new start-up screen that presents a few templates, for example, ColdFusion, PHP, or the usual HTML, smooths the task somewhat. Once youve chosen a template, you could start developing the website. As always, Macromedia provides you with a choice of three different work spaces: a WYSIWYG page designer, a techie-oriented code view, or maybe a split screen.
The spiffy Tag selector enables you to choose, edit, or delete tags within Design view.
The work area is bracketed by toolbars and panels for convenient entry to Dreamweavers gargantuan feature set. To switch among open pages inside work area, click on a tab at the top on the screen tabs can be found only inside Windows version. Each tab features buttons for quickly switching between work-space views. On the Insert bar, youll find buttons for adding objects for instance media, tables, and forms for your page. On the side in the screen, some docked, groupable panels offer access towards the heavy machinery inside Dreamweaver, for instance the chance to add code snippets and objects, view style properties and site organization, and modify Behaviors. At the bottom on the display, youll discover a Property bar that shows the settings with the currently selected item-text, graphics, so on-and enables you to quickly modify parameters for example font, color, and size.
You can make a working document type on the new start-up screen.
Macromedias minor interface tweaks will include a Favorites area within the Insert bar, a great right-button context menu in coder view, a WYSIWYG text-style selector, as well as an improved tag selector. One tweak you want Macromedia makes is to add the cabability to group panels via drag and drop, even as can primarily Adobe applications. The current approach, which requires selecting Group With from the context menu, is awkward.
The listing of Dreamweavers sexiest features-XML, ASP, CSS, SQL, PHP, JSP-reads just like a seemingly endless roster of acronyms. All this stuff comes from two major kinds of functionality:
2016 Honda Accord: Now with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay
Watch this! Video dominates social networking in 2015

Dreamweaver also will no longer supports monitor resolutions below 1024 x 768 pixels. For more information, start to see the Dreamweaver system requirements about the Macromedia website.
The 7.0.1 update fixes bugs in Dreamweaver MX 2004 on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. The following are some in the more important issues resolved.
The update fixes various performance issues reported by quite a few users, for instance when typing in pages with nested tables, switching documents, or launching Dreamweaver.
The update fixes several bugs that caused Dreamweaver to crash, like in certain circumstances when implementing or JSP pages in Design view, or when applying bold or italics to text after applying a color style for the text.

Users in eastern Europe report that every time a character encoding will not be specified in a preexisting page, Dreamweaver will not correctly display the eastern European characters. When you open a website in Dreamweaver, the applying checks the encoding specified within the pages meta tag to express to it how you can encode and decode the characters inside file. If the meta tag will not specify an encoding, however, Dreamweaver guesses latin-1 or some other encoding which may not be the required encoding.
To address this matter, a whole new preference was put into check for an encoding each time you open a webpage in Dreamweaver. If the page won't specify an encoding, Dreamweaver sets all pages encoding to your specified default encoding. To turn for this preference, open the New Document preference dialog box Edit Preferences New Document, after which select the checkbox below the Default Encoding pop-up menu.
A preference was added that triggers Dreamweaver to prompt you after you move a folder or file within the server. This preference is enabled automatically and makes utilizing remote files safer. To turn off this preference, select Edit Preferences Site, and deselect the Move Options checkbox.
The reference chapters of ColdFusion help Help Using ColdFusion have already been updated. The update fixes an issue with section introductions that contained a heading with no links towards the section topics. It also fixes an issue where the standard reference subheadings Description, Category, Syntax, and thus on are not displayed.
Because of file size considerations, the newest reference isn't included inside 7.0.1 updater. However, you are able to install it separately as a possible extension in Windows or Macintosh. Note: The extension updates the assistance system, not the Reference panel. For more information, go to the Dreamweaver Exchange and look on Dreamweaver Help: Using ColdFusion.
A detailed number of issues resolved using the update is available around the Macromedia website.
After installing the 7.0.1 update, please be aware in the following issues when with all the product.
The Image Viewer Flash element Insert Media Image Viewer will not support GIFs on account of patent issues. You can convert the GIFs to JPEGs in Fireworks or Photoshop.
If it can save you file as page, Dreamweaver won't insert code which can be necessary to identify the ASP scripting language at the top with the page. If you could have an ASP-Javascript site, file demands the following code at the top from the page to function: %LANGUAGEJAVASCRIPT CODEPAGE1252%. Without it, the page might not function around the server, and Dreamweaver might not exactly recognize or add server behaviors correctly. The solution should be to manually add the missing code at the top from the file, close the file, then reopen it in Dreamweaver.
When you insert multiple form objects on the same enter an HTML form, Dreamweaver doesn't give each object a distinct name. For example, every Text Field object you insert is termed textbox. You must rename each object utilizing the Property inspector, the Tag inspector, or Code view. If you like, you are able to set a Dreamweaver preference making sure that each form object on the same type emerged a distinct name automagically textbox1, textbox2, etc. To do this, select Edit Preferences Code Rewriting, and select Rename Form Items When Pasting. This preference should also apply when inserting new form objects.
If you install ColdFusion MX 6.1 on Windows 98 or 2000, you need to also install the Microsoft Data Access Components MDAC 2.6 or greater. You can download the MDAC for free from your Microsoft website.
Some users report that Macromedia applications is not going to launch after upgrading to Panther. Typically the appliance icon bounces for the dock as well as the application does not launch. The issue generally affects users who upgrade Mac OS X using either the Archive and Install or Erase and Install options.
After installing Dreamweaver, the Macintosh user authentication dialog box keeps prompting you or crashes.
For normal installations, you won't ever see this challenge. It will only occur if the AuthenticationService file within the Library/Application Support/Macrovision folder has become removed or perhaps is missing. This can happen a single of three ways:
You manually deleted the Macrovision folder or even the Application Support folder.
You perform side-by-side install of Mac OS 10.3 with Mac OS 10.2, where Dreamweaver is installed under Mac OS 10.2.
You install Mac OS 10.3 over a separate partition and Dreamweaver is installed under Mac OS 10.2.
Intermittent crashes have already been reported for the Macintosh when utilizing Dreamweaver having a non-roman keyboard. If you experience this matter, perform following:
Open System Preferences in Mac OS X.
Click the International button.
